POSITION SUMMARY
The Resident Director (RD) is a full-time, live-in professional staff member responsible for fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive living-learning environment for residential students. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals interested in beginning a career in student affairs or higher education. The RD oversees the day-to-day management of a residential area, supervises student staff, and supports student development through programming, community building, and crisis response.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise, train, and evaluate a team of Resident Assistants (RAs) Foster a positive and inclusive residential community that promotes student engagement and academic success Plan and support educational and social programs aligned with departmental and institutional goals Serve as a conduct officer for policy violations within the assigned residential area Respond to emergencies and participate in an on-call duty rotation Maintain visibility and availability to students through regular office hours and community presence Collaborate with campus partners, including Public Safety, Counseling Services, and Academic Support Manage administrative responsibilities such as occupancy reports, room condition records, and incident documentation Assist with student check-in, check-out, and room selection processes Promote a safe and respectful living environment by enforcing community standards Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
: Incumbent works with university policies and general objectives, referring to supervisors to clarify and interpret broad university policies and procedures or programmatic references.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree required, Experience in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field preferred. Experience in residence life or student leadership roles (e.g., RA, peer mentor, orientation leader) Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse community Demonstrated commitment to student development and inclusive practices
