Position Purpose:
The Nursing Student Support Specialist provides RN-BSN, MSN, and international nursing students with accurate and timely service within the program from student recruitment through graduation. The Nursing Student Support Specialist is responsible for developing program information materials for prospective and current students and for coordinating the dissemination of program admission and progression information to prospective and current students. This position will provide leadership and support to faculty advisors by providing information, resources, and guidance related to advising and admission of nursing students. The Nursing Student Support Specialist will work closely with the department nursing Chair, Chief Academic Nursing Administrator (CANA), RN-BSN and MSN program coordinators, Nursing department faculty, and support staff, as well as other key student service areas such as Advising Services, graduate studies, Admissions, Registrar's Office, International Admissions, Center for Global Engagement, and academic departments that provide supportive courses for all prospective and current students. This position will support the Department of Nursing program assessment activities as applied to students and graduates.
Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate procedures and processes for admission to RN-BSN and MSN programs. Educate current and prospective students, faculty advisors, and other student service areas on nursing admission requirements and procedures. Provide support to the respective nursing program's Admissions Committee for the nursing admission processes, including monitoring of applications, preparing application materials, pre-program advisement, monitoring student application progression, and adherence to admission criteria. Monitor and report problems with student application progression and academic requirements as indicated in the admission requirements; make recommendations to the appropriate nursing Admissions Committee to address problems as needed. Work closely with international admissions and graduate studies admissions to ensure seamless admission to the university, graduate studies, and to nursing. Ensure that students complete the university/graduate studies orientations. Coordinate required pre-admission testing (i.e., Accuplacer) and requirements. Work with individual students seeking admission or failing to make progress toward admission and provide information and referrals. Possesses a comprehensive understanding of F-1 visa regulations and Curricular Practical Training (CPT) requirements, with a commitment to staying current on evolving federal laws, SEVP guidance, and university policies. 2. Support prospective and admitted RN-BSN and MSN students. Work with RN-BSN and MSN programs and the university to establish effective advising policies, procedures, and practices. Provide advising to prospective and newly admitted students regarding degree progression, liberal education, and upper division credit requirements. Ensure students are advised for first semester registration and develop a progression plan that meets the individual needs of the student while meeting all university and international student requirements through graduation. After the first week of the student's first semester, collaborate with assigned faculty advisor and the student to ensure seamless transition and communication of the progression plan. Monitor and report problems with student progression and academic requirements as indicated in the admission requirements; make recommendations to the appropriate progressions committee (undergraduate or graduate). Assist nursing students as needed with revising progression plans to meet all university and international student requirements. Work closely with Advising Services, nursing faculty, program coordinators, and center for global engagement to develop strategies and resources for effective advising. 3. Coordinate and conduct student recruitment activities. Represent Nursing Programs at Admissions events. Coordinate individual prospective students and family visits. Manage information requests from prospective and current students and their families. Travel to local and regional high schools, industry partners, community college partners, and college fairs. Work closely with Admissions to develop strategies to coordinate and conduct student recruitment activities. 4. Develop and maintain accessible student-facing RN-BSN and MSN program resources, requirements, policies, and processes. Ensure that program orientations, webpages, and program handbooks are accessible and updated to reflect current program policies, requirements, and information and are in alignment with the university and graduate studies (as appropriate). 5. Assist with data tracking and assessment activities as applied to RN-BSN and MSN students and graduates. Track data related to RN-BSN and MSN admissions, enrollment, completion rates, and graduation.
Salary Range:
$47,607-$93,342 annually.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience in nursing or closely related field. At least one year of professional advising experience in an academic setting. Experience in higher education student services. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively within a team and communicate clearly with prospective and current students from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in managing student records, tracking admissions/progression milestones, and preparing student-facing materials. Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and take initiative in a fast-paced academic environment while meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with international students, including familiarity with F-1 visa regulations and CPT requirements. Demonstrated knowledge of admissions processes and onboarding procedures specific to college transfer students. Experience supporting nursing programs.
Other Requirements:
The successful candidate must be able to lawfully accept employment in the United States by the day employment begins.
