Summary
The individual serves as the athletic communications strategist for Intercollegiate Athletics. This includes, but is not limited to:
Crafting the strategic vision for website and social media communications for the Department of Athletics
Leadership and professional development of the strategic communications staff
Responsibility for fostering strategic external media partnerships on behalf of BGSU Athletics
Cultivating campus relationships which bring BGSU Athletics into alignment with University communications strategies
A leadership role in growing the brand and image of the Athletics Department, such that it is viewed as "the front porch of the University"
Essential Functions
Leadership of strategic communications functions for the department's 18-sport athletic program, including direct day-to-day management of the football and ice hockey programs
Leadership and management of the strategic communications staff
Strategize, implement, and act as managing editor for the athletics department's presence on the web, which includes BGSUFalcons, correlating websites
Develop and implement a compelling and comprehensive social media strategy on behalf of BGSU Athletics, to foster growth of followers and strengthening the brands of both Athletics and the greater University
Leadership with the department's broadcast partnerships and management of streaming operations (ESPN3, ESPN+, etc.)
Serving as the primary media liaison for BGSU Athletics
Serving as the department's spokesperson
Serve in an event management role at home athletic events
Attend meetings and represent the department on committees and planning groups
Serve on external relations team that generates revenue and increases image and visibility for the department
Archiving documents, files, images, and video for the Athletics Department
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The following Degree is required: Bachelor's Degree
The following Degree is preferred: Master's Degree
The following Experience is required: 3 years of experience in sports communications for a program, team, or a department. Experience could also include media experience such as radio broadcast, print media, etc.
1 year of staff supervision
The following Licensure, Certifications, or Registration is required:
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and comply with the university's vehicle use policy.
Additional Information
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of social media and communication vehicles to wide audiences. Must be comfortable with public speaking and must be strong writer.
Demonstrated presence on multiple social media platforms
