Job Description
Sauk Valley Community College ( SVCC ), a comprehensive institution nestled in a picturesque rural setting, invites applications for the position of Dean of Business, Career, and Technical Programs. Located in rural northwestern Illinois along the scenic Rock River, SVCC is situated between the cities of Dixon and Sterling, placing it just one hour from Rockford and the Quad Cities, and two hours west of Chicago. Summary of Role Strategically lead the Business, Career, and Technical Education (BCTE) departments, ensuring academic excellence, fiscal responsibility, and alignment with regional workforce needs. Provide high-level administrative oversight for specialized units, including Adult Education and the Police Academy.
Key Duties & Responsibilities Academic Leadership & Faculty Management Talent Oversight:
Lead the end-to end lifecycle for BCTE faculty, including strategic recruitment, comprehensive training, pedagogical observation, and formal performance evaluations.Dual Credit Quality Assurance:
Direct the CTE dual credit pipeline by vetting faculty credentials, scheduling strategic course offerings, and providing professional development to ensure high-school partnerships mirror collegiate rigor.Instructional Scheduling:
Architect the semester-based instructional schedule in collaboration with the VP, optimizing course availability to meet student demand and faculty expertise.Student Advocacy:
Serve as the primary arbiter for student concerns and academic grievances, facilitating resolutions that uphold institutional standards and student success.Fiscal & Grant Administration Perkins Leadership:
Serve as the primary administrator for the Perkins V Grant , overseeing budget allocation, initiative planning, and the submission of state and federal compliance reports.Budgetary Stewardship:
Direct the preparation and management of the Academic Services annual budget, ensuring strategic allocation of resources for instructional technology and departmental growth.Operational Planning:
Facilitate annual goal-setting and operational mapping with faculty leaders to align departmental activities with the college's long-term strategic plan.Workforce & Economic Development Industry Liaison:
Strengthen the nexus between the college and the regional economy by cultivating partnerships with employers to expand internship pipelines and career placement for graduates.Signature Events:
Lead the strategy and execution of Manufacturing Day and similar high-visibility events, coordinating with internal constituents, high schools, and local manufacturers to ensure successful events.Strategic Oversight:
Provide executive-level direction to the Director of Adult Education, the Director of the SVCC Police Academy, and the Executive Director of Donor Relations and Economic Development.Institutional Service Governance:
Represent the BCTE division on the Leadership Council, contributing to college-wide policy-making and strategic initiatives.Operational Continuity:
Serve as the designated Night Administrator on a rotating basis, ensuring campus safety and administrative responsiveness during evening hours. Essential Functions Must understand and support the mission of the community college. Must have strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and analytical skills. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment. Must be able to communicate effectively by phone and email on a daily basis. Must be able to work with Microsoft Office products. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends. Master's degree required. Evidence of support for the mission of a comprehensive community college with business or industrial experience. Appreciation of teamwork, excellent oral and written communication skills, and computer literacy required. Knowledge/experience with alternative teaching/learning options, curriculum design and evaluation are a must. Must have the ability to contribute to instructional vitality and growth.
