Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid Chicago, the Assistant Director of Financial Aid provides financial aid support for approximately 3,000 Northwestern professional students in the Feinberg School of Medicine by providing information, advice, and counsel to students, parents and staff regarding financial aid regulations and programs, including how aid impacts invoices. Collaborates with Feinberg Admissions to determine aid eligibility based on federal and institutional methodology. Develops financial aid packages for prospective and current students, monitors reporting and/or awarding for one or more designated institutional, federal, or state programs, and supports Feinberg's AWSOM financial wellness and debt management programming in accordance with the AAMC and LCME accreditation. The Assistant Director will primarily work with students, faculty, and staff in the Feinberg School of Medicine. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
Specific Responsibilities :
Analyzes complex financial aid applications for approximately 800 students using established University guidelines, utilizing both institutional methodology and federal methodology as well as federal and state regulations, and prepares award packages. Responsible for monitoring and reporting for one or more federal or state programs or University divisions, under the supervision of senior staff. As the primary escalation point for complex cases, this role supervises aspects of client services for Feinberg students. Provides detailed information and professional advice to parents and students. Includes the specifics of how aid award is calculated, the Return of Title IV policies, how invoices are impacted, and how academic performance interacts with federal and university financial aid regulations. Information is provided via telephone, email, in person, and occasionally to small groups. The Assistant Director is responsible for sufficiently documenting the outcome of the review and any changes to the student's account to meet federal, state and/or university regulations and policy. Provides formal and informal presentations working with the Feinberg School of Medicine Admissions and the Office of Medical Education teams. Presentations may be in-person or online. Counsels students along with Feinberg's AWSOM financial wellness and debt management programming in accordance with the AAMC and LCME accreditation.
