The incumbent will lead research on physics education, leading to the implementation of teaching assistant professional development for introductory physics courses. Duties and Responsibilities:
Research & Evaluation Responsibilities Manage Physics Education research and evaluation projects, including designing experiments, collecting data, creating evaluation criteria, analyzing data, and presenting findings. Ensure research and evaluation methods are consistent, accurate, reliable, and appropriate to achieve project goals. Analyze data using statistical methods. Remain current on trends in education research and PD, including publishing articles and presenting at conferences, propose and write grants based on research and evaluations. Ensure that research and evaluation projects meet all ethical and legal guidelines. Collaborate with other entities on campus and at partnering institutions to conduct all phases of research and evaluation projects. Work with the director of evaluation to provide support across all phases of the project evaluation process for grant funded projects. Gather, evaluate, and analyze data collected for the effectiveness/impact of professional development activities. Prepare data/analysis for publication and further grant proposal requests. Mentor graduate students in designing experiments and analyzing data related to STEM and Physics educational activities. Create a course based on Physics-specific pedagogy and findings of research. Continue to gather data and analysis for further research and publication. Perform other additional appropriate related duties to further the mission of the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in STEM education or discipline-based education research in physics or closely related field. Four years of experience leading and evaluating professional development activities for educators. Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $65,000- $80,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. This position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University's Workplace Flexibility policy. This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship for work authorization.
