(BL-RSLF-IUBLA) Department Information Indiana University (IU) Bloomington is a public Research Institution with a total enrollment of 45,328 students and some of the top academic programs in a range of disciplines. With Big Ten sports, more than 700 student organizations, a vibrant artist community, and plenty of other opportunities for involvement, IU is a campus full of energy and life. Residence Life is a strategic campus partner in the Involvement and Belonging area of the Office of Student Life. We house approximately 13,000 predominately first year students in 14 traditional residence halls and 6 unfurnished apartment communities. In addition to our traditional floors, we have 21 Living Learning Centers and Thematic Communities. Job Summary The Residence Life Coordinator for Student Development (RLC-SD) is responsible for programs and initiatives related to the residential student experience on campus and in university-owned properties. Initiatives are focused on developing a student community that is welcoming all academic areas, socially stimulating, and ensures student well-being and safety. This role enforces residential policies and procedures, manages and provides crisis response, and serves in a supportive capacity for students of all backgrounds. Department-Specific Responsibilities Promotes a sense of engagement and belonging with residents and staff. Promotes a community living experience through the implementation of the Residential Curriculum that cultivates productive and well-rounded citizens through intentional experiences as they learn, engage, and grow during their time on-campus. Works collaboratively with colleagues in managing the operations of the residence hall, supporting the Office of Residence Life's mission, and promoting the values of the organization that include building a safe, inclusive environment through leadership, supervision, and crisis management. General Responsibilities Establishes and maintains a positive residential community that supports and enhances the educational mission of the university through developmental and social programs, personal student contacts, and the fostering of faculty-student interaction. Initiates and fosters student leadership opportunities, personal responsibility, and respect for others. Frequently interacts with students on an individual and group basis; listens to concerns and issues, advises students on programs and initiatives across the university that may help with academic goals and/or student engagement, and recommends resources for students in crisis or facing adversity. Addresses and resolves student behavioral problems within assigned hall(s)/unit(s) and documents and reports incidents to manager, student conduct staff, or law enforcement as appropriate, maintaining confidentiality and university policy and procedures. Coordinates and delegates hall administrative tasks, including room changes, and programming account expenditures. Communicates, interprets, and administers residence hall rules and regulations as well as the student code of conduct and other relevant university policies. Responds to and resolves resident, guest, parent/guardian, and other stakeholder concerns or complaints. Responds to and assists with the management of building-wide emergencies or crisis situations. Provides day-to-day supervision of live-in student staff members and assists with selection, training, and evaluation. May assist with housing application review, housing assignments, and housing reassignments. May assist with hall councils, oversight of student desk operations, and liaising with unit and campus partners. Qualifications Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
EDUCATION
Required Bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Preferred Master's degree in higher education student affairs, counseling, or a closely related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred Some experience in student services, higher education, or related field. 2 years of supervisory experience. Residential curriculum or learning outcomes-based programming or teaching experience. SKILLS Required Proficient written and verbal communication skills. Maintains a high degree of professionalism. Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills. Demonstrates a high commitment to quality. Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty. Demonstrates analytical skills. Demonstrates problem solving skills. Preferred Excellent organizational skills including ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines. Demonstrated computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel) and preferably additional management systems related to payroll, room assignments, door access, and conduct case management. Experience with additional management systems related to residence hall operations. Commitment to helping connect students to resources. Demonstrated ability in creating positive, intentional growth, and engaging opportunities for students and staff. Crisis management and conduct experience. Experience working with a budget. Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. It is a condition of employment for the person in this position, RLC-SD, to live on-site in housing provided by Indiana University. Work Location Indiana University Bloomington This is an in-person position. Work Hours Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm, with some evening and weekend commitments.
