2 E2 Position Summary Under the direction of the Director of Housing and Residence Life, the Associate Director is responsible for the supervision, planning, organization and coordination of all aspects of professional and paraprofessional staff. This includes the selection, training, and evaluation of all Area Coordinators, Resident Assistants and other student staff in conjunction with HRL leadership. . This position requires a student-centered leader who plays a vital role in enhancing the residential experience at the university to foster a safe, healthy, and engaging on-campus living environment. This position works closely with the Director in performing various responsibilities including providing administrative leadership for the department of Housing and Residence Life. This position is responsible for developing a strong team and enhancing the living and learning experience of residential students.Duties/Responsibilities Student Advocacy and Engagement:
- Support the development and/or implementation of residence life programs that promote academic success, student well-being and/or community building.
- Foster a healthy, and welcoming environment that meets the diverse needs of students.
- Serve as a resource for students, providing guidance on housing-related concerns and conflicts.
- Actively seek student feedback to improve housing policies, programs and living conditions.
- Be visible and accessible to students through office hours, residence hall visits, and campus events.
Community Building and Relationships:
- Maintain visibility in and awareness of housing areas to proactively serve community.
- Serve as Housing and Residence Life liaison for summer orientation programs.
- Support and mentor RAs, student leaders, and professional staff to enhance the residential experience of students.
- Develop and sustain strong and effective collaborative partnerships and relationships with key constituencies across campus.
Operations and Management:
- Coordinate assessment processes and projects for Housing and Residence Life. This includes but is not limited to point of contact surveys, annual student satisfaction surveys, student staff evaluations, focus groups, etc.
- Work closely with Area Coordinators to help them develop pride for all aspects of housing.
- Serve in on-call rotation with HRL leadership..
- Support the Associate Director of Business Operations and the Director in all housing facilities initiatives and processes.
- Manage budgets as assigned by the Director. Designated signature authority on assigned budgets and backup signature in Director's absence.
- Stay current with national trends in Housing and Residence Life.
- Responsible for staffing orientation, preparing presentations, and representing Housing and Residence Life.
- Assist with housing applications, room assignments and/or special accommodation requests, when needed.
Policy Enforcement, Conflict Resolution and Crisis Management:
- Serve on the CARE Team. Work closely with the Assistant Director of Student Conduct and Outreach for effective handling of student conduct response and case adjudication follow up.
- Work closely with Director, and Associate Director in response to emergency and crisis situations.
- Mediate student conflicts within residence halls and provide support.
- Assist in the development and revision of policies in HRL.
- Maintain HRL programming policies and procedures to enhance student satisfaction, promote academic success, and contribute to student retention.
Leadership and Development:
- Select, train, supervise and evaluate all Area Coordinators. Provide training and education for ACs, GAs and RAs. Meet regularly with Area Coordinators. Provide professional development support for all Area Coordinators and Graduate Assistants.
- Work closely with Area Coordinators to select, train, supervise and evaluate Resident Assistants.
- Oversee the recruitment, training, and development of Resident Assistants, Graduate Assistants and other student staff. Develop Resident Assistant training programs.
- Provide leadership training and mentorship to enhance student leadership opportunities within apartments and residence halls.
- Manage on-going training and development for all staff through workshops, seminars, conferences, and other means.
- Create/revise all staff information and training manuals, resident, parent and staff newsletters, and programming publications.
- Serve as Housing and Residence Life representative on divisional and/or university committees as assigned by the Director.
