Professional Staff PS Description Vincennes University Dean - Dean of the College Health Science and Human Performance Vincennes, IN Vincennes University seeks a visionary and collaborative leader to serve as the Dean of the College of Health Science and Human Performance. Reporting directly to the Provost, the Dean is the senior leader responsible for the overall accountability of academic programming, curriculum development, accreditation, assessment of student learning, and faculty oversight. The College of Health Sciences and Human Performance at Vincennes University offers a comprehensive suite of programs designed to prepare students for high-demand roles across the healthcare and wellness sectors. Spanning nursing, kinesiology, and healthcare administration, the curriculum ranges from specialized certificates to Bachelor of Science degrees, including unique pathways like RN-to-BSN and Funeral Service Education. Students benefit from rigorous, selective-admission programs that emphasize hands-on training, many of which are housed in the state-of-the-art Center for Health Sciences and Learning Innovation. Whether focusing on clinical practice in surgical technology and physical therapy or the business of sport and health informatics, these programs combine technical proficiency with professional leadership to meet the evolving needs of modern healthcare environments. The Dean will oversee day-to-day operations while championing the College's signature small class sizes in the state-of-the-art Center for Health Sciences and Learning Innovation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to VU's mission and workforce development initiatives, bringing experience in academic leadership to a complex environment that requires sound, flexible, and creative decision-making. With exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, the Dean will cultivate a culture of care and excellence, supporting faculty growth and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to advance the College's strategic goals and statewide impact.
Primary Functions and Responsibilities:
Administrative Oversight:
Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the College, including administrative processes, resource allocation, budget oversight, personnel accreditation, and performance management.
Strategic Leadership:
Provide leadership for ongoing and new initiatives related to college degree programs, academic affairs, such as curriculum development, program recruitment, program review, accreditation processes, and strategic planning.
University Representation:
Represent the College in relevant university, college, or departmental committee meetings (e.g., Curriculum Committee, Assessment Committee, Faculty Senate meetings) to ensure effective participation in shared governance and decision-making.
Policy Implementation:
Ensure the effective implementation of University and College policies and procedures, and contribute to their review and development as needed.
Data-Driven Decisions:
Utilize data for informed decision-making regarding academic programs, student success, faculty affairs, and operational efficiency.
Faculty and Staff Support:
Provide guidance and support to faculty and staff within the College, fostering a productive and collaborative environment. This includes the team member recruitment, retention, professional development, and promotion as applicable.
Other Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned by the Provost that are consistent with the responsibilities of a university Dean.
The preferred candidate will have/be:
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of academic program development and evaluation, adult principles and practices, and curriculum development. An active, energetic, and well-organized personality with a sense of humor and collegiality, creating a culture of care and a climate of inclusiveness. A leadership philosophy that emphasizes an environment of accountability and open communication. Strong decision-making skills that demonstrate a sense of fairness, sensitivity, compassion, and objectivity. Personal and professional integrity to the highest degree. Industry experience in a discipline offered by the College of Health Sciences and Human Performance.
Desired Qualifications:
Education:
Doctoral degree preferred, Master's degree in Health Sciences or related field required.
Leadership Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in academic or industry leadership.
Teaching Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of college teaching experience, preferably in a Health Sciences discipline.
Work Authorization:
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Salary:
Commensurate with qualifications.
Start Date:
August, 1st 2026

Physical Requirements:
Sedentary Stamina:
The role involves remaining in a stationary position (sitting) for prolonged periods-often 50% or more of the workday-to perform desk-based administrative tasks and attend lengthy meetings.
Mobility & Travel:
Deans must have the mobility to navigate large campuses, move between offices and floors, and travel to various sites or off-campus events using private or commercial transportation.
Light Physical Labor:
Occasional light to moderate lifting (typically 10 to 25 pounds) is required.
Sensory Acuity:
Vision:
Must be able to read printed or digital materials, evaluate student work, and adjust focus for close-up and distance vision.
Hearing & Speech:
Ability to hear and understand speech at normal conversational levels and communicate clearly to exchange information and negotiate during meetings.
Fine Motor Skills:
Frequent use of hands for keyboarding, operating office equipment, and handling files or materials.
Flexibility & Scheduling:
Physical endurance to handle varying work hours, including frequent interruptions and occasional evening or weekend work and events.
