Full Job Description Overview:
Morris Jeff Community School seeks employees who are committed to the school's mission and vision, who hold themselves and their students to high expectations for performance and achievement, and who model unwavering professionalism at all times. Morris Jeff is an International Baccalaureate (IB) school that offers an education that is a source of freedom and possibility for all students, permitting them to develop their talents fully, become contributing global citizens, and attain the foundation needed to excel at college, career, and beyond. The Assistant Dean at Morris Jeff will be responsible for responding to students in crisis, providing de-escalation interventions, facilitating restorative conversations, supervising students in in-school suspension, contacting parents, and tracking and reporting student data. The Assistant Dean of Students will also assist in monitoring common spaces, collaborate with staff members, and participate in professional development and meetings about students.
The Assistant Dean will:
Work closely with the Dean of Students to establish a positive and achievement-oriented school culture vision and plan Consistently uphold school-wide expectations and behavior management systems, and collect and monitor data on student behavior Respond to students in crisis, support students through crisis, and provide de-escalation intervention Support proactive, positive culture, expectations, consistency, and effective classroom management Implement a school-wide behavior management system with meaningful and logical incentives and consequences (PBIS) Implement discipline code of conduct and follow up for students, families, and staff Fulfills responsibilities related to discipline documentation and actively supports and holds staff accountable for fulfilling professional responsibilities related to discipline Ensure that the physical environment of the school reinforces school culture and facilitates student growth and achievement Supervise school entry, breakfast, lunch, transitions, and dismissal to ensure they are safe and positive Fosters an environment and culture that promotes MJCS beliefs and commitments, as well as MJCS graduate aims Participate in school-wide and individual professional development Perform any other duties as assigned The job description is meant to provide the overall focus of the position and is not an exhaustive list of what may be required. Qualifications:
Experience with de-escalation strategies and non-violent crisis prevention Strength in building relationships with students, staff, and families Ability to take both direction and initiative Proficiency with technology Flexibility Teamwork Excellent communication skills Upholds student privacy and confidentiality Physically capable of restraining students when required (under CPI guidelines and certification) and reacting quickly to crisis situations involving students (which may involve moving swiftly in the building and on stairs). 3 years of experience at Morris Jeff (preferred) The Assistant Dean position is not included in the Morris Jeff United Educators union's collective bargaining agreement.
