Immediately Job Description RISE Academy is an alternative high school within Lawrence Public Schools. RISE is a trauma-informed school, grounded in restorative justice, that values relationships and mutual respect with the belief that all students want to be successful in school. RISE students learn in a competency-based structure in an academic and social-emotional program that works to prepare students for an ever-changing world after high school. Rise Academy serves students who are making the transition from a variety of public and private middle schools in the City of Lawrence. We recognize the importance of the early high school years as a launching point to a school career where students are supported in reaching their highest academic and extracurricular potentials.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage, support and develop a high-caliber team of 10-15 teachers within a small learning community through consistent, asset-based coaching and development.
  • Assume personal responsibility for the academic progress of all students
  • Set clear expectations and standards for excellent teaching.
  • Build the capacity of teachers' use of assessment data to inform instruction.
  • Conduct observations and feedback sessions.
  • Evaluate teachers in collaboration with administration through formative and summative evaluations using the current MA Model System for Educator Evaluation
  • Classroom Teacher Rubric.
  • Set and uphold consistently high academic and behavioral expectations for students and staff through modeling.
  • Hold teachers accountable for upholding school wide expectations (e.g. professional dress, updating gradebook, parent phone calls, etc.)
  • Create scope and sequence for year-long staff PD (with the goal of differentiating PD opportunities through the year); Lead robust data inquiry cycles.
  • Design and assist teachers in planning school-wide interim assessment Data Days
  • Seek out and create PD opportunities for yourself and teachers aligned to future goals and trajectory (e.g. excellent school visits, external PD conferences or workshops, etc.)
  • Facilitate Professional Development for staff members
  • Provide curriculum development including mapping and assessments.
  • Provide high quality feedback with tangible goals for lesson plans.
  • Set the vision for school-wide classroom management policies and maintain consistency across all classrooms.
  • Actively participate in building and maintaining school culture through morning and afternoon duties during assigned times.
  • Contribute to adult-culture building rituals and bonding experiences.
  • Participate in in all Leadership Team meetings.
  • Model professionalism at all times
  • Ability to take initiative and succeed in a fast-paced school environment while remaining calm and focused when faced with unexpected challenges
  • Additional tasks required by the principal(s)
Desired Qualifications:
At least five years of teaching experience, preferably in an urban setting. Extensive knowledge of High School content. Experience with leading adults
  • instructional coaching experience preferred.
Values Collaboration and teamwork; Highly Organized. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm in the face of challenges. Humility and a good sense of humor. Bachelor's degree is required, master's degree is preferred. Valid Massachusetts Administrative License for the appropriate grade level; ESL license or SEI Endorsement preferred. Current authorization to work in the United States. Driving desire to disrupt inequity and improve outcomes for all students Commitment to the academic and personal success of Lawrence Public Schools' students and families Proven experience supporting English Language Learners
