The Dean of Academics is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the academic operations of the school. This position demands an organized professional capable of managing academic affairs, providing guidance to Instructional Coaches, and developing systematic processes to adapt to organizational changes. Reporting directly to the Superintendent, the Dean of Academics supervises faculty and staff while working closely with scholars and families.
Duties and Responsibilities:
School Leadership:
Foster an aspirational and data-driven culture within the school community. Cultivate positive relationships with administrators, teachers, scholars, families, and community stakeholders. Supervise the academic team, including Instructional Coaches, academic interventionists, paraprofessionals, and teachers. Prepare Academic Excellence Report for Superintendent & Board of Directors. Prepare & submit required reports to MDE, Wayne RESA, and Board of Directors.
Student Achievement:
Lead and manage the school's instructional program, ensuring alignment with the goals of MPA. Drive continuous improvement by setting ambitious goals for scholar growth and analyzing data to maximize learning outcomes. Collaborate with staff and faculty to interpret data and inform instructional decisions.
Management of Professional Development and Learning:
Organize and lead professional development meetings, providing valuable insights into educational programming and alignment with achievement objectives. Develop and implement differentiated professional development sessions on a bi-weekly basis for faculty and staff. Provide guidance and support to Instructional Coaches, including teacher evaluations and feedback.
Assessment and Evaluation:
Assess and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional practices in accordance with MPA's educational goals. Collaborate with the school leadership team to develop and monitor core curricula and instructional materials. Identify and promote best practices to enhance scholar learning outcomes. Provide regular reports on the effectiveness of educational initiatives, incorporating data-driven insights.
Management of Curriculum and Instruction:
Support the lesson planning process and provide regular feedback to faculty and staff. Collaborate with the Superintendent and instructional team to ensure the effective implementation of curriculum materials. Ensure the adoption of highly-aligned, standards-based curricula across all grade levels. Provide direction to the Instructional coaches to implement curriculum initiatives effectively. Conduct yearly curriculum audits to ensure compliance and effectiveness. Attends montly Board of Directors meetings
Equity-Focused Support:
Assist faculty and staff in providing equitable teaching and learning opportunities in all classes. This position offers a unique opportunity to drive academic excellence and student success within a dynamic educational environment. Candidates must possess a Teacher Certificaiton and a State of Michigan School Administrators Certification or be currently enrolled in a certification program. Three years of experience or equivalent.
