ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT/UNIVERSITY ENGAGEMENT
Position Summary Reporting directly to the Vice President of University Engagement and Student Affairs ( VPUESA ), the Associate Vice President of University Engagement ( AVPUE ) serves on the VP's Executive Leadership team. The AVPUE is a direct liaison to faculty, staff, students, community members, and counterparts at other institutions. Further, the AVPUE participates in an executive on-call rotation for emergencies and attends meetings/events representing the VP and special projects. In accordance with the Leadership Standards at Central Michigan University, the Division of University Engagement and Student Affairs works cooperatively with a diverse array of constituencies to nurture a supportive, collaborative environment which centers student and scholarly success while enhancing CMU's organizational culture. The primary responsibility of the AVPUE is to provide executive leadership to divisional units serving under the umbrella of University Engagement. Units reporting to University Engagement includeCMU CARES
, Counseling Services, Center for Collaborative Learning and Engagement, Disability Services, Indigenous Affairs, LGBTQ Services and Gender Equity Programs, and Sexual Aggression Services. In consultation with the Vice President of University Engagement and Student Affairs, this position also provides executive guidance on matters pertaining to community engagement and belonging. These responsibilities include serving in the absence of the vice president on high-impact events and committees, advancing outreach priorities, as well as supporting the development and implementation of community-based initiatives that contribute to the overall success of our students. Additionally, a strong relationship with the Office of Residence Life is pertinent, as a dotted line exists between Residence Life andCMU CARES
. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Seven years of progressively responsible higher education experience, with responsibility for organizing and managing concerns emerging from social issues and relationships. Demonstrated experience with cultivating a culture of creativity, care, concern, and belongingness. Demonstrated ability to build and manage teams in a large, decentralized environment. Demonstrated ability to leverage highly effective and engaging verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to ensuring that all members of the university community can thrive. Prior experience in community engagement, partnership development, and event planning. Demonstrated ability to bring together various constituencies and needs, particularly those that are perceived to share conflicting interests. Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, implementation and proven results in cultivating robust learning environments and opportunities that align with institutional priorities. Prior experience with the successful implementation of curriculum development, assessment, and evaluation. Extensive experience with effectual training and development. Strong administrative, time management, and prioritization skills, with the capacity to support multiple priorities with significant attention to detail. Utilizes an entrepreneurial approach to building community, advancing divisional efforts, and addressing emergent and longstanding needs, concerns, and opportunities. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree. At least ten years of progressively responsible higher education experience, with responsibility for organizing and managing concerns emerging from social issues and relationships. Extensive experience with providing managerial support that centers standpoint theory in counseling and psychological services and sexual assault education and prevention. Experience with publishing assessment reports, briefs, and presentations. Duties & Responsibilities Provides programmatic and budgetary support, as well as staff supervision for the following units: CARES , Counseling Services, Center for Training and Development, Disability Services, Indigenous Affairs, and LGBTQ Services and Gender Equity Programs. Facilitates a team-oriented approach to developing substantial partnerships with the Executive Director of Residence Life and the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs. Leads the development and implementation of opportunities that enhance campus community members' engagement with culture, perspective-taking, and critical thinking skills. Collaborates with units across campus, the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, and community partners throughout the state to implement initiatives that supports safety, growth, and the creation of a holistic learning environment. Serves on an executive level on-call rotation for emergencies. Provides support and resolutions for critical incidents and campus crises. Works with faculty, staff, students, student organizations, campus entities, and community organizations on matters related to community-building, professional development, and campus climate. Serve as a mentor and advisor to students, when needed. Advises the Vice President of University Engagement and Student Affairs and academic colleges on evolving student demographics, advocacy concerns, and policy needs. Recommend priorities and procedures that enhance the successful implementation of university priorities associated with divisional and institutional strategic plans. Collaborates with Faculty Personnel Services and Human Resources to advise, train, assess, and provide guidance on attracting, recruiting, and retaining a robust pool of talent. Collaborates with Student Recruitment and Retention and CMU Athletics to implement strategies that attract a diverse student population. Assesses programs and services offered by University Engagement to operationalize a data-informed approach to achieving unit-based learning outcomes and university goals with purpose and intentionality. Engages University Advancement to solicit gifts, grants, and contracts to help support the overall success of units serving under the umbrella of University Engagement. Serves on campus committees, task forces, and steering groups, as appointed. Represents University Engagement and Student Affairs on behalf of the Vice President, as needed. Coordinates with the Vice President of University Engagement and Student Affairs on community-wide messaging, when necessary. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
