Resident Director, Residential Life

EMPLOYMENT TERMS

Regular, full-time employee, 12-month position

PRIMARY DUTY

The Resident Director is responsible for the overall management of a residence hall(s) of 200-500 residents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Responsible for programmatic, supervisory, and administrative management of assigned Residential Hall(s) 2. Responsible for the selection, training, supervision, and development/mentoring of student staff, one undergraduate Assistant Resident Director, and other specialist positions 3. Implement and evaluate comprehensive residential experience program in collaboration with the department 4. Collaborate with pertinent areas on campus to meet needs of students 5. Responsible for program development and implementation with a focus on traditional college-aged students 6. Management of judicial process within assigned hall(s) 7. Responsible for budget administration, facility management, and policy enforcement 8. On-call responsibilities for all residence halls; work in collaboration with University Police, Counseling Center, and Facility Services 9. Coordinate and supervise room changes, key assignments, occupancy report, maintenance record and other administrative functions 10. Assist the department with crisis situations as needed and hall student mental health issues 11. Be involved in departmental committees, projects, and assignments 12. Serve on Interdepartmental Committee(s) 13. Advise, consult, and refer students on an individual basis 14. Perform additional assigned tasks as delegated.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Bachelor's degree

Experience:

Experience with campus life on a college or university campus preferred but not required

Skills:

Skills in interpersonal communications, leadership, conflict resolution, the ability to work with diverse populations and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously

WORKING CONDITIONS

Live-on position, air-conditioned office in hall. Some weekends and evenings are required

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervision of 5-12 RA's, and 1-4 specialist positions.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sedentary and physical work requiring the ability to lift and move 25 pounds on occasion. Ability to observe and interpret printed notices, policy violations, and other documents. Ability to observe and evaluate aural cues for policy violation, fire alarm response and a person yelling for immediate assistance. Ability to communicate in English effectively both orally and in print. Ability to evacuate residents from any residence hall without the use of an elevator. Fire evacuation may occasionally include traversing all of the flights of stairs more than one time without the use of an elevator.
