Department Arts & Sciences (was Academic Affairs) Opening Date 04/01/2026 DESCRIPTION BENEFITS The Dean of Arts & Sciences provides leadership, supervision, and evaluation for the departments, degree programs, certificates, personnel, and other areas within Arts and Sciences as assigned by the President. These areas include disciplines such as mathematics, science,munication, social and behavioral sciences, humanities and fine arts, business, and teacher education. The Dean rmends the appointment of faculty and staff; supervises and evaluates personnel; develops and submits annual budget requests; and fosters collaborative relationships with colleges and universities, secondary schools, and private, governmental, and professionalanizations. The Dean serves on the President's Council; oversees the preparation and submission of required state and federal reports; assists in the development and supervision of all locations, courses, and programs; and maintains assessment and evaluation processes for assigned degrees and certificates. The Dean works collaboratively with the Dean of Workforce Development and Technical Education, the Dean of Health Sciences, and the Dean of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management to advance the mission, strategic plan, and institutional goals; and to support student success. This position reports to the Vice President for Instruction. Review of applications will begin immediately. Qualifications A master's degree is required; an earned doctorate is preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong background in higher education, and have experience in higher education administration, teaching, or other professional experience relevant to academic leadership. The candidate must possess excellent written, oral, and interpersonalmunication skills; demonstrated leadership andanizational ability; the capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines; and a strongmitment to the mission and values of themunity college. Job Responsibilities In assuming these responsibilities, the Dean of Arts & Sciences will: Oversee quality of instruction and course content of all assigned instructional courses and programs; Conduct regular evaluation of faculty, providing feedback, supporting professional growth, and ensuring instructional quality andpliance with accreditation and institutional standards; Assume responsibility for establishing and maintaining an evaluation system for all assigned instructional programs, including oversight of the assessment process, data collection and analysis for continuous evaluation and revision of programs, use of assessment results to improve student learning, and allocation of budgeted resources to support and sustain the assessment program; Work with other instructional administrators (including campus directors), the Dean of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, and the Director of Instructional Technology in preparing class schedules and utilizing instructional resources; Provide strategic leadership for the College's dual credit program, ensuring academic quality, regulatorypliance, and alignment with institutional standards; Ensure systematic review, verification, and documentation of faculty credentials consistent with accreditation standards and institutional policy; Conduct research relating to instructional services andfacilities incoordinationwith other instructional administrators; Prepare an annual budget for the assigned instructional areas; Rmend to the Vice President for Instruction the employment of all certified personnel relating to assigned instructional areas; Assist the Vice President for Instruction in determining overload pay and issuing contracts; Work with the Dean of Workforce Development & Technical Education, the Dean of Health Sciences, and the Dean of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management in the accumulation andanization of data onmunity educational needs; Review and approve, as appropriate, requisitions for instructional supplies and equipment to be used in academic programs; Rmend to the Vice President for Instruction all professional travel requests for assigned programs and faculty; Serve on the President's Council and other institutionalmittees, including relevant advisorymittees; Maintain and supervise updating of course syllabi for course offerings; Assist the President in accreditation activities from the Higher Learning Commission; Assume responsibility for maintaining active professional membership in local, state, and nationalanizations; Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Instruction or the President.
