Job Description
The Dean of Arts & Sciences provides leadership, supervision, and evaluation for the departments, degree programs, certificates,personnel, and other areas within Arts and Sciences as assigned by the President. These areas include disciplines such as mathematics,science, communication, social and behavioral sciences, humanities and fine arts, business, and teacher education. The Deanrecommends the appointment of faculty and staff; supervises and evaluates personnel; develops and submits annual budget requests; andfosters collaborative relationships with colleges and universities, secondary schools, and private, governmental, and professionalorganizations. The Dean serves on the President's Council; oversees the preparation and submission of required state and federal reports;assists in the development and supervision of all locations, courses, and programs; and maintains assessment and evaluation processes forassigned degrees and certificates. The Dean works collaboratively with the Dean of Workforce Development and Technical Education, theDean of Health Sciences, and the Dean of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management to advance the mission, strategic plan, and institutionalgoals; and to support student success. This position reports to the Vice President for Instruction. Qualifications :
A master's degree isrequired; an earned doctorate is preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong background in higher education, and haveexperience in higher education administration, teaching, or other professional experience relevant to academic leadership. The candidatemust possess excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated leadership and organizational ability; thecapacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines; and a strong commitment to the mission and values of the community college.Job Responsibilities:
In assuming these responsibilities, theDean of Arts & Scienceswill:
Oversee quality of instruction and course content of all assigned instructional courses and programs; Conduct regular evaluation of faculty, providing feedback, supporting professional growth, and ensuring instructional quality and compliancewith accreditation and institutional standards; Assume responsibility for establishing and maintaining an evaluation system forall assigned instructional programs, including oversight of the assessment process, data collection and analysis for continuous evaluationand revision of programs, use of assessment results to improve student learning, and allocation of budgeted resources to support and sustainthe assessment program; Work with other instructional administrators (including campus directors), the Dean of Student Affairs andEnrollment Management, and the Director of Instructional Technology in preparing class schedules and utilizing instructional resources; Provide strategic leadership for the College's dual credit program, ensuring academic quality, regulatory compliance, andalignment with institutional standards; Ensure systematic review, verification, and documentation of faculty credentialsconsistent with accreditation standards and institutional policy; Conduct research relating to instructional services andfacilities in coordination with other instructional administrators; Prepare an annual budget for the assigned instructionalareas; Recommend to the Vice President for Instruction the employment of all certified personnel relating to assignedinstructional areas; Assist the Vice President for Instruction in determining overload pay and issuing contracts; Workwith the Dean of Workforce Development & Technical Education, the Dean of Health Sciences, and the Dean of Student Affairs and EnrollmentManagement in the accumulation and organization of data on community educational needs; Review and approve, as appropriate,requisitions for instructional supplies and equipment to be used in academic programs; Recommend to the Vice President forInstruction all professional travel requests for assigned programs and faculty; Serve on the President's Council and otherinstitutional committees, including relevant advisory committees; Maintain and supervise updating of course syllabi for courseofferings; Assist the President in accreditation activities from the Higher Learning Commission; Assume responsibilityfor maintaining active professional membership in local, state, and national organizations; Perform other duties as assigned bythe Vice President for Instruction or the President.Similar jobs in Moberly, MO
