Job Description

Serving as an administrative and academic officer, the Associate Dean assists with the development and administration of the Arts and Sciences department, including instructional vision, leadership, management and support for adjunct and curricula in support of College goals and objectives. In collaboration with other associate deans and deans, ensures efficiency in scheduling, student learning outcomes assessment, and curricular and programmatic initiatives. This position fosters a high-quality environment of academic teaching and intellectual achievement, and creates and strengthens partnerships within and outside of the College. The Associate Dean, teaches one (1) course per fall/spring semester or as needed in an instructional area. Communicates and collaborates regularly with deans and associate deans to create a course schedule to meet student and community needs, including room and instructor assignments and keeps Dean informed of academic matters Recruits, hires, and orients adjuncts to the department, provides direct supervision, signature authority, and evaluates adjunct faculty; coordinates with other hiring managers to ensure adjunct faculty are instructing within the College's defined workload parameters to maintain compliance with Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirements Provides textbooks, course outlines/guides, sample syllabi, and other resources for adjunct faculty ensuring currency and consistency of materials Serves as instructional resource/leader for all instructors on campus and assists faculty in modifying and adapting instructional materials to support learning theory Oversees credential verification for adjunct faculty to ensure that the campus adheres to SACSCOC requirements and College credential policies and procedures Provides supervision of other departmental employees as needed and in the absence of the Dean Participates in institutional governance by serving on task forces or committees Monitors campus courses and program enrollments Selects and recommends instructional materials/equipment Develops and manages budget in collaboration with the dean to ensure effective and efficient use of resources Ensures compliance with required instructional time and efficient and effective use of classrooms Recommends changes to courses, programs of study, and/or curriculum standards as needed Promotes awareness and facilitates professional development opportunities for CCC faculty in instructional design and methodologies, learning theory, classroom management, and effective integration of multimedia in curriculum delivery Establishes and maintains good community relations; seeks opportunities to market programs to individuals, groups, and industry leaders; promotes community awareness of programs and provides community service to the College Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College's mission, core values and goals Master's degree in English, Communications or Humanities or a Master's degree with at least 18 graduate hours in English, Communications or Humanities from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning. Five (5) years' evidence of successful higher education teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting, that includes demonstrated experience with curriculum design and evaluation and effective use of methods and technology to facilitate education.
Preferred:
Three (3) years' progressive leadership in a community college setting, with success in administration of programs to include strategic planning, budgeting, operations, and collaboration with colleagues. Eighteen (18) graduate hours in Rhetoric and Composition from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning. Knowledge Business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resources allocation, leadership techniques and coordination of people and resources Current complex principles and practices of instructional program development and administration Organizational and management practices applicable to the analysis and evaluations of programs, policies and operational needs Community college operations Current trends, technologies and initiatives relative to student success Skills Adept at cultivating and sustaining high-level professional relationships and partnerships and providing collaborative and inclusive leadership of faculty and staff in representing the College in the community Proficiency in planning, organization, communication, presentation, negotiation, training, supervisory and interpersonal skills Competency in budget planning/management, statistical research and accreditation processes including SACS, and program-specific accreditation agencies Competency in monitoring/assessing the performance of self, other individuals, department and programs to make improvements or take corrective action Demonstrate professional behavior that supports team efforts and enhances team behavior, performance, and productivity Abilities Commitment to student-centered principles and understanding of the community college mission Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work Handle confidential information with absolute discretion Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; demonstrated ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse workforce and student population, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities, and socioeconomic levels
