Meredith College is seeking a chair for the Business Department. Chairs at Meredith are faculty leaders responsible for overseeing academic quality, curriculum alignment, faculty performance, and operations. The Business Department offers a bachelor's degree in business administration with concentrations in accounting, marketing, hospitality and tourism, and degrees in economics, and a minor in finance. The department also offers an MBA degree.
Responsibilities:
Department Curriculum
  • Oversee curriculum development and revisions for the department
  • Review and assess academic programs offered by the department
  • Assess general education outcomes in core courses taught within the department
  • Initiate new academic programs and projects when appropriate Department Operations
  • Manage course schedules that serve program and student needs
  • Manage course registrations and instructor assignments
  • Oversee the department's fiscal operations; develop and regularly monitor the department budget
  • Review and revise department information published in the college catalog
  • Manage the maintenance of departmental print and electronic records, including websites Personnel
  • Recruit, appoint, and supervise faculty in conjunction with the provost
  • Evaluate faculty and staff performance
  • Support and oversee the overall development of the department faculty and staff
  • Recruit, appoint, and supervise department staff and student assistants
  • Review faculty and staff grievances within the department Students
  • Recruit and retain students in the department's programs
  • Coordinate student advising and reviews of degree progress
  • Evaluate student transfer credit
  • Review student academic appeals and grievances Faculty Responsibilities
  • Teach at least two classes per semester
  • Participate in research and scholarly activities in the discipline
  • Participate and assist department faculty in college and community service activities as appropriate Required skills and experiences:
  • In-depth understanding of academic policies, curriculum development, and accreditation processes
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage budgets and personnel effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to support faculty research, student success initiatives, and community engagement
  • Demonstrated competency in data-driven decision-making
Essential Job Functions:
  • Provide academic leadership for all programs within the department
  • Oversee budget development and resource allocation to support college and departmental goals and priorities
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty and staff while promoting professional development
  • Lead efforts to assess and enhance academic programs, including accreditation and program review
  • Other related duties, as assigned
Qualifications:
An earned doctorate or terminal degree in a business; preference given to specialty area in strategic management, marketing, or economics.
