Job Description

Academic Advising Specialist (HEOa)
  • Division of Humanities & the Arts (2 Positions)
  • POSITION DETAILS
  • Join our advising team of committed and passionate educators to support student success in an historic public college with a mission of access to excellence.
The Academic Advising Specialist, which reports to the dean of Humanities and the Arts, will be involved in all aspects of advising students our approximately 2,000 students majoring in the 9 academic departments that comprise the Division of Humanities and Arts. We pride ourselves on encouraging students to explore and to find their passions, and on building bridges between the unique abilities that humanities and arts develop and post-graduation careers. (Campus-specific Information and duties)
  • Work with the dean of Humanities and the Arts, the deputy dean, and the lead undergraduate advisor in planning, scheduling, coordination and supervision of academic advising and registration activities for the academic departments and programs within the division
  • Collaborate with other academic and administrative offices to maintain a comprehensive academic advisement program
  • Ensure students are provided with consistent, accurate, and prompt advising services, coordinating with academic departments
  • Work with students to resolve academic issues, providing information and/or referral
  • Maintain and monitor divisional records on related matters
  • Perform degree audits for degree candidates within the division
  • Advise students on probation and handle re-entry applications
  • Represent Division at admissions events and manage advising social media pages.
  • Assist with other projects as needed
  • Ensure the Division's adherence to college policies and procedures, write reports, and maintain records
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ A graduate degree is preferred. Bachelor's and/or graduate degree in a discipline or disciplines within Humanities and Arts preferred. + The preferred candidate will be intelligent and resourceful, with a strong work ethic and problem-solving skills. Excellent oral and written communications along with exceptional interpersonal, computer, and computational skills, are essential.

  • Ensures students are provided with consistent, accurate, and prompt advising services, coordinating with academic departments
  • Works with students to resolve academic issues, providing information and/or referral
  • Develops orientation programs to engage and retain students and instructs students, faculty and staff on use of advising technologies
  • Conducts assessments to strengthen advisement programs
  • Organizes and facilitates training for faculty advisors
  • Develops print and online communication materials
  • May supervise office operations and budget
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

  • COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • Salary Range:
    $70,815
  • $82,663.
Salary commensurate with education and experience. CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the
PSC-CUNY
