POSITION OBJECTIVE
The director of annual giving direct engagement programs has a primary responsibility for providing strategic leadership in planning and implementing the university's central annual giving direct response programs and processes. The incumbent will develop the overarching strategy for soliciting annual gifts under $10,000 and increasing the number of donors giving annually to the university. The director will be responsible for evaluating data and analytics to guide strategy with a high level of attention to detail. This position will also directly supervise staff members responsible for executing annual giving appeals, stewardship activities and data analysis. Functioning as part of a university development team, the incumbent will be expected to work collegially, and in partnership, with central and school- and college-based colleagues.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
In conjunction with the executive director of leadership annual giving and engagement, construct and execute a university-wide annual plan for direct mail, digital and crowdfunding solicitation programs within the context of the overall annual giving goal. Provide strategic direction to large annual giving campaigns such as the Day of Giving and Giving Tuesday. Partner with school-based annual giving personnel to execute their specific direct mail and digital solicitation campaigns. Lead the annual giving stewardship activities. Actively participate in development and alumni relations activities as requested or required including, but not limited to, attendance at university functions. (60%) Develop the strategy for segmenting appeals to specific sub-sets of donors and prospects. Provide supervision to the annual giving content manager and annual giving graphic designer to ensure appeals are personalized and appropriate for segments. Manage the team's priorities, processes and projects from conception to completion. (20%) Provide leadership to reporting, data analysis, and comprehensive testing strategy, including the management and supervision of the annual giving data analyst, that will support the annual giving program's long-term growth. Review and analyze data and benchmark program progress. Provide regular feedback and prepare reports regarding the success of campaign activities and recommend future directions. (10%) Provide strategy and leadership to stewardship activities that will improve the university's retention of annual giving donors. Manage and supervise the department's assistant director of donor engagement to ensure successful implementation of tactics. (10%)
