Position Summary
DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Director of Operations for Athletics and Recreation, Events is responsible for the planning, management, and necessary coordination of operations for all varsity and special events held at York College Athletics and Recreation facilities.
OUTCOMES
Effective planning and management of well-run varsity and special events. Thoughtful guidance and evaluation of practicum students. Effective fostering of a positive environment for workers, participants, and attendees of varsity and special events. Essential Functions Event and Facility Oversight 40% Oversee event preparation and operations, including but not limited to: facility setup/breakdown, officials and visiting team assistance, locker room assignments, game operation (scorer's table, announcing, music, scoreboards, ball retrieval, etc.), parking, ticketing and cash collection, crowd control, videotaping, laundry collection, and policy enforcement. Serve as approving authority for game-related activity requests. Manage operation and inventory of all Athletics & Recreation concessions. Establish best practices and maintain employee manual for Athletics & Recreation event operations. Jointly oversee risk management for Athletics & Recreation facilities, including, but not limited to: emergency action plans, accident and incident reports, training standards, access/alarm/paging/disinfection systems, opening and closing procedures, security and safety checks, and inspections. Personnel Oversight 40% Oversee the hiring, training/development, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of all professional staff and student employees who serve in support roles for Athletics & Recreation event operations. Oversee the assignment, training/development, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of all Sport Management Practicum students working to earn academic credit in support roles for Athletics & Recreation event operations. Coordination/Communication 20% Serve as the Athletics & Recreation contact/host/coordinator for all varsity and special events. Oversee collaboration with on-campus services (Campus Safety, Maintenance, Grounds, IT, Food Service, etc.) and outside contractors for support of Athletics & Recreation event operations. Experience and Education Required Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred. Two years of experience in event operations, personnel supervision, and risk management. American Red Cross CPR/AED and basic first aid certifications. Required Skills and Qualifications Ability to work effectively in a collegiate setting with enrolled and prospective students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni and the greater college community. Ability to manage and coordinate departmental programs and services. Excellent organization, communication (verbal, interpersonal, and written), attention to detail, and customer relations skills.
