Job Description

Associate Vice Provost and Dean of Students University of Pittsburgh Pittsburgh, PA TheUniversity of Pittsburgh ("Pitt") seeks a seasoned, collaborative, and dynamic student affairs leader to be the next Associate Vice Provostand Dean of Students. Reporting to the Vice Provost and serving as a valued member of her Strategic Leadership Team, the AVP and Dean ofStudents is a visible and engaged advocate with and for all students on the Pittsburgh campus of the University of Pittsburgh. The AVP andDean of Students assists the Vice Provost for Student Affairs in the leadership and administration of the Division of Student Affairs AVPand is charged with exercising visible, collaborative, and student-ready leadership at the intersection of academic life and studentexperience. The AVP provides leadership for innovative co-curricular programs, activities, and services that promote student well-being, asense of belonging, engagement, diverse learning experiences, and prepare students for success at Pitt and in the global community. The AVPis responsible for the strategic direction and management of the Office of the Dean of Students, including two teams: Student Culture andCommunity and Student Engagement. The AVP plays a key role in supporting and advancing the mission and priorities of the Division ofStudent Affairs and the University's strategic plan, and advocates for a student-centered institutional focus. They will work with andassist undergraduate, graduate and professional students, and student leaders by listening and responding to student issues and concerns;maintaining a visible presence on campus; and serving as a liaison between students and the larger institution.

Leading and empowering a large and dynamic team of professionals at all levels within studentaffairs Developing and maintaining a high level of visibility, trust, and transparency across campus, engaging students at alllevels within the richly diverse student body at Pitt Serving as a key partner to academic affairs in support of holistic studentdevelopment, student success, and co-curricular learning Evolving the multifaceted core infrastructure to support student safetyand wellbeing Supporting a culture of assessment and strategic planning to support the student experience Candidate Profile The successful candidate will be a strategic, collaborative, and deeply seasoned student affairsleader with a clear record of both vision and action to promote holistic student development and wellness, civic engagement, academic andintellectual development, and the skills needed to thrive in their chosen pursuits. The selected candidate will have a proven history ofbuilding collaborative, productive relationships with students, team members, and campus partners and will be a highly effectivecommunicator, and a visible and accessible leader. They will have a broad understanding of higher education leadership, student supportpractices, student development and engagement, programming, and administrative functions as well as best practices in student safety andwellness.
