Job Description
Anderson University's Office of Student Development invites applications for a full-time, 12-month position as Director, First-Year Experience and Orientation. Anderson University is an innovative, entrepreneurial, premier comprehensive, liberal arts university affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention. The University seeks a candidate with a strong Christian value system, lifestyle, and commitment to the integration of faith and learning. The Director of First-Year Experience (FYE) provides strategic leadership for engaging, high-impact programs that support new students throughout their first year. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Development, this role oversees a comprehensive First-Year Experience that includes Base Camp Orientation, Welcome Week, and ongoing co-curricular initiatives designed to challenge, support, and connect students. The Director collaborates closely with campus partners, including Student Activities, Admissions, Alumni, and academic leadership, to ensure a seamless and meaningful transition into university life. This position leads the planning and execution of all orientation programs across multiple terms, managing logistics, marketing, registration, budgets, and student staff. The Director also plays an active role in first-year programming by supporting and teaching within the AU 101 course, recruiting and mentoring student leaders (Alpha Leaders), and developing a dynamic calendar of events with a focus on early student engagement. In addition, the role contributes to major campus events, serves on committees, and helps align programming efforts across departments to enhance the overall student experience. Knowledge equivalent to that gained through a master's degree in student development, higher education, or related field is preferred. A bachelor's degree with three to five years of work experience in higher education is required. This role requires proven leadership experience, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain, prioritize, and execute multiple projects simultaneously. A commitment to collaboration, excellence, and the holistic development of students and a mature Christian faith aligned with Anderson University's mission and values is essential.
