Assistant Director of Student Involvement (Fraternity & Sorority Life) Welcome to Furman University'sCareer Site!

Furman Panhellenic Council (FPC) and Interfraternity Council (IFC); provides community support through one-on-one meetings with councilofficers and attendance at council meetings to promote student leadership and a values-centered fraternity and sororityexperience. Directs the coordination of formal and informal recruitment activities for FPC and IFC; serves as primary staff contactfor membership intake processes for Furman's two National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) organizations. Advises and mentors leaders ofFPC, IFC, and NPHC chapters, including providing guidance and support through regular one-on-one meetings. Coordinates and/or assistswith community-wide educational programs, including officer transition workshops, leadership retreats, new member programming, andleadership awards. Oversees and manages the Furman Fraternal Excellence program to align fraternity/sorority organizations withFurman's strategic priorities. Communicates, interprets, and enforces appropriate University policies; provides guidance and supportto chapters particularly in the areas of risk management, membership recruitment and education, community building, academic excellence,social justice, civic engagement, and personal leadership. Assists with management of syncDIN (student organization managementsoftware, powered by the Engage platform) to ensure accurate records of organization events, as well as updated rosters of members,officers, and advisors. Assists with updating accurate records related to scholarship, community service, philanthropic efforts,event management, and other pertinent statistics for the OSI and Division of Student Life. Serves as a point of contact for chapterinter/national organizations, alumni, and chapter advisors. Oversees all Office of Student Involvement marketing and communicationsefforts, as well as the Furman Fraternity & Sorority Life website. Manages Fraternity & Sorority Life operatingbudget. Collaborates with other Student Involvement staff to support a comprehensive student organization program. Workscollaboratively with the Assistant Director of Leadership Development in the Center for Interpersonal Connections to develop and facilitateleadership workshops for student organization leaders. Works closely with other Student Involvement staff to implement strategicinitiatives and departmental programs and activities. Division and University Assists in the development of assessmentplans, strategic thinking and planning, learning outcomes, and goals and objectives coordinated with the mission and vision statements ofthe University, the Division of Student Life and the Office of Student Involvement. Serves on campus committees asassigned. Participates in the Division of Student Life on-call crisis management rotation. Participates in professionaldevelopment activities, with approval by the Director, and maintains volunteer activities with a chosen professional association asappropriate. Completes performance review process with supervisor to understand job performance expectations and how they fit intothe department and University goals. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the goals and objectives of theDivision of Student Life, and the University. The Assistant Director of Student Involvement (Fraternity & Sorority Life) is an integral part of thedaily operation of the Office of Student Involvement ("OSI"), as well as the Division of Student Life. Under the supervision of the Directorof Student Involvement, the Assistant Director develops educational initiatives, innovative programming, and meaningful relationships tocultivate impactful student organization experiences. The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting with oversight of Furman'sfraternity and sorority community of over 800 students and 14 chapters. The Assistant Director will promote learning and development forstudent leaders through collaboration within the OSI, Center for Interpersonal Connections, the Malone Center for Career Engagement, andother campus partners. The Assistant Director will assist the Director in developing organizational competencies and assessment outcomesthat connect student participation to the University's strategic plan - FUture Focused. Additionally, the Assistant Director willcollaborate with colleagues in the Office of Student Involvement to further its strategic initiatives related to diversity and inclusion,new student orientation, leadership development, and service learning and civic engagement. In so doing, the Assistant Director will supportthe mission of the OSI to create a vibrant campus for students to enjoy a broad experience within a close-knit community. Reviewswork to ensure compliance with procedures and deadlines. Tasks involve multiple procedures with interrelated processes or steps; Workinvolves choosing the appropriate option or procedure to follow and applying established rules and procedures. Errors may be detectedwithin the department or section in which they occur, but may affect the work of others within the unit to trace errors and makecorrections.Reports To :
Director of Student Involvement Work is performed independently. Non-routine issues orquestions are referred to the supervisor.Education/Skill Requirements :
Master's degree in Student Affairs, HigherEducation Administration, Counseling or other related field required. 1-3 years of experience in Student Affairs or Higher Education(graduate experience may be considered); experience in fraternity and sorority advising is strongly preferred. Knowledge of bestpractices and ability to infuse research with practical experience to create intentional leadership programs for fraternity and sororitylife. Understanding of student development and identity development theories and practical applications is essential. Musthave excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. Abilityto interact with a diverse population and maintain a positive attitude in times of crisis. Understanding of the importance of studentlearning outcomes and assessment preferred.Work Conditions:
