25 Position Summary The Executive Director of Athletics provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to build and sustain Brazosport College's intercollegiate athletics program within the NJCAA framework. Above all, this role champions a culture grounded in character, integrity, academic achievement, community engagement, and fiscal responsibility while serving as a highly visible ambassador for the College. Through strong collaboration and meaningful engagement with students, faculty, staff, and community partners, the Executive Director advances a shared vision of student-athlete success and institutional vitality, demonstrating exceptional communication, relationship-building, and leadership throughout a rigorous and competitive selection process befitting senior-level public higher education leadership. Applicants should understand that this position is subject to a comprehensive, structured, and rigorous selection process consistent with established procedures and expectations for senior leadership appointments in a public institution of higher education. As a start up program, the Executive Director of Athletics leads all phases of development, including program design, staffing, compliance, facilities planning, and student athlete recruitment, while ensuring alignment with the College's mission, values, and NJCAA regulations. The athletics program will launch with men's baseball and women's softball, with planned future expansion into other sports as appropriate This role will lead the startup and phased growth of athletics beginning with: Men's Baseball Women's Softball Essential Duties and Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Program Development Lead the design, launch, and phased implementation of initial sports programs (baseball, softball, and additional programs at a later date) applying for NJCAA membership in October of 2026, coordinating efforts with the NJCAA for acceptance, and to begin competition in August 0f 2027. Develop a multi-year athletics expansion plan, including the possibility of adding men's and women's soccer programs and additional programs at a later date. Establish competitive program structures, conference alignment, and NJCAA participation strategy. Build a departmental culture centered on character development, discipline, accountability, sportsmanship, and excellence on and off the field. Advise executive leadership on program growth, risk, and resource allocation. Develop and foster essential soft skills such as leadership, communication, accountability, and resilience to support success both on the field and beyond. Sport-Specific Program Oversight Oversee startup and operational success of: o Baseball and Softball programs, including hiring coaches and staff, evaluation of athletic staff, field partnerships, recruiting pipelines, and scheduling. o Title IX alignment and participation balance Ensure each program is built with a focus on competitive success and student-athlete and character development. Student-Athlete Success & Character Development This role supports a student-centered athletic program that promotes academic success, leadership, and character development, while fostering a culture of excellence and accountability and ensuring alignment with institutional standards and National Junior College Athletic Association eligibility requirements. Implement systems to support academic success, retention, and completion. Develop structured leadership and character development programming and community service for all student-athletes. Lead, Coordinate, and Promote a culture of excellence, integrity, accountability, and personal responsibility for all student athletes. Ensure compliance with NJCAA eligibility and institutional academic standards. Community Engagement & Recruitment Pipeline Build strong pipelines with local high schools, club programs, local youth leagues, and regional athletic organizations. Establish partnerships with area facilities youth leagues, and community organizations.POSITION ATHLETICS AS A COMMUNITY CONNECTOR AND ENROLLMENT DRIVER
Coordinate with coaches to offer community instructional camps. Encourage coach's clinics and lessons to get more local youth and families on campus and involved in Brazosport College athletic programs. Direct recruiting strategies and build sustainable pipelines with high schools, club programs, youth organizations, and regional athletic partners. Fiscal Stewardship & Resource Management Develop, manage, and oversee start up and ongoing athletics budgets; ensure sound fiscal stewardship, equitable resource allocation, and long term program sustainability. Prioritize spending across sports to ensure equitable and strategic program development. Oversee procurement of equipment, uniforms, travel, and operational resources. Collaborate with campus partners including Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, Facilities, Marketing/Communications, and Advancement to support recruiting, enrollment, fundraising, compliance, and student athlete success. Facilities Planning & Operations Lead planning and coordination of athletic facilities through strategic partnerships, collaborate on master planning and capital improvements, ensure NJCAA compliance, and oversee effective game-day operations and event management.Lead planning and coordination for:
o Baseball and softball fields (partnerships) o Additional programs at a later date Collaborate with Facilities department on use of facilities Ensure all venues meet NJCAA competition standards. Oversee game-day operations and event management. Compliance, Governance & Title IX Alignment Ensure compliance with NJCAA, Title IX, and Brazosport College Board Policies (DH, DLC, DM1, etc.) Develop participation strategies that maintain gender equity as programs expand. Establish internal controls for eligibility, recruiting, financial oversight, and documentation. Serve as liaison to NJCAA conferences and governing bodies. Personnel Leadership Recruit, hire, supervise, motivate, educate, evaluate, and retain quality head coaches for the sports programs offered. Build staffing models aligned with program growth (athletic trainers, support staff, etc.) Have very clear, well-defined Job Descriptions for all staff and hold people accountable. Establish performance expectations tied to student success, coach's and player's conduct, and program outcomes. Promote ongoing professional development and leadership training for staff. Supervisory Responsibilities The Executive Director of Athletics supervises coaches and administrative staff within the athletics department. Qualifications Required Minimum Qualifications Master's degree from an accredited institution Minimum of 5 years or more progressively responsible leadership at Director and above Experience at either or both: o Four-year collegiate athletics programs (NCAA/NAIA), and/or o Community college/NJCAA athletics Demonstrated experience in program startup, expansion, or program turnaround of athletic programs. Proven success in budget oversight, facilities coordination, and operational leadership Strong understanding of NJCAA rules, compliance, and governance Preferred Qualifications Experience launching athletic programs. Experience in fundraising, sponsorships, or external partnerships Experience in and with social media and social media platforms Teaching experience at the community college or university level Experience working with faculty, faculty leadership, and athletic advisors. Experience with computer software including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and AI platforms Experience coaching at the high school or collegiate level. Familiarity with Brazoria County and region, its school district's, their athletic leadership, community stakeholders, and industrial partners. Established relationships, connections, and network with area athletic programs from the little league, club, select, and college programs.
