Job Summary The Dean of Students is a quasi-administrative leadership role designed for licensed teachers who wish to support student success and school-wide initiatives without assuming the full responsibilities of an administrator. Focused on student academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development, the Dean assists the principal by overseeing discipline, attendance, and student engagement efforts. The Dean also plays a central role in family communication, staff collaboration, and school culture building. Essential Functions Student Support and Behavior Management Monitor and address student behavior and enforce school policies. Work with school social workers, psychologists, and teachers to develop and implement behavior intervention plans. Promote and model positive behavior expectations aligned with schoolwide systems (e.g., PBIS or restorative practices). Social Skills and Dispositions Facilitate programs supporting social-emotional learning (SEL), including empathy, resilience, and conflict resolution. Lead or coordinate SEL curriculum, student assemblies, and school climate-building activities. Support and organize Panorama survey efforts. Attendance Monitoring Track student attendance and implement interventions to reduce chronic absenteeism and tardiness. Communicate with families to identify barriers to attendance and provide appropriate support or resources. Family and Community Engagement Serve as a liaison between school and families to build positive relationships and support student achievement. Organize and attend family meetings, including those related to behavior, discipline, or academic concerns. Collaborate with community partners to bring services and resources into the school. Teacher and Staff Collaboration Support teachers in classroom management strategies and share schoolwide behavior expectations. Assist in professional learning efforts, data analysis, and the implementation of schoolwide improvement plans. Help coordinate teacher support and mentoring efforts where applicable. Crisis Intervention Assist in responding to and managing student-related crises. Ensure students receive proper support during and after crisis events through appropriate referrals and follow-up. LEA Designee Responsibilities Collaborate with the Special Education team to ensure IEPs are implemented with fidelity and in accordance with IDEA. Serve as an LEA representative during IEP meetings when designated by the principal. 504 Plan Coordination Work with counselors, teachers, and families to evaluate and implement 504 accommodation plans. Ensure compliance with federal and state 504 regulations. Academic Support and Coaching Assist in promoting instructional improvement and student achievement. Support professional development initiatives, teacher coaching, and data-informed decisions that increase student learning outcomes. Administrative Support Assist with student supervision during school hours and extracurricular events. Support administrative decision-making and serve as acting administrator when designated. Participate in schoolwide planning, data review, and implementation of improvement initiatives. Required Knowledge and Skills Strong understanding of instructional practices, curriculum, and assessment. Experience supporting student behavior through evidence-based strategies. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to provide leadership and collaborate across school teams. Capacity to interpret and use student data to drive improvement. Proficiency in conflict resolution, family engagement, and crisis management. Working knowledge of IDEA and 504 compliance. Ability to support a diverse student population and promote equity. Required Training and Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Valid Utah Professional Educator License. Minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience. USBE cleared criminal background check. Working Environment Supervision of students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g. recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality. Requires physical mobility and the ability to perform standard school duties (e.g., monitoring transitions, responding to incidents). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Physical Demands Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to reach with hands and arms, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects. Ability to talk or hear. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to focus. Physical demands require moving and lifting supplies, equipment, etc., up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.Note:
