Job Description

Salt Lake Community College values and endorses strong and effective academic leadership. Associate Deans (ADs) are the foundation for strong and effective academic leadership. In association and collaboration with Deans ADs are primarily responsible for shaping a division's success and making certain their division is in compliance with all SLCC policies and procedures. ADs must clarify, communicate, and implement the department's vision, mission, guiding principles, goals, and expectations. ADs work with the College administration, peer institutions, the community, and prospective students in the critical areas of curriculum development, recruitment, and retention. Provides effective leadership for the department. This is a temporary appointment.
CURRENT SLCC EMPLOY EES ONLY 1.
Innovative, collaborative and flexible management style. a. Ability to manage the departments or division in compliance with College procedures, guidelines and direction. b. Along with the Deans, take a leading role in academic program quality andassessment of student learning outcomes. 2. Ability to work in a team setting. a. Serve on the School Curriculum Committee and Student Learning OutcomesAssessment Committee. b. Meet with department and division members on a regular basis. 3. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills. a. Whenever possible, utilize and report the advice of the Program Advisory Committees. 4. Ability to address faculty, staff, and student issues in a positive manner at thedepartment level and in collaboration with College departments, divisions, andadministrators. a. Assist the Dean in developing new and modifying existing programs to promotestudent learning outcomes and program effectiveness. 5. Ability to meet deadlines. 6. Integrity and high ethical standards, and an ability to engender trust. 7. Excellent computer skills. 8. Ability to lead, direct, and manage departmental personnel, making appropriatedecisions. a. Provide leadership, support and supervision for department or division faculty and staff. b. Help the department or division faculty to establish an appropriate vision andappropriate goals that have a clear tie to the College mission. c. Coordinate department or division faculty and staff in endeavors to achieve the College's mission and strategic plan. 9. Ability to manage the department or division in compliance with College policies,procedures, guidelines, and direction. a. Monitor, prepare and maintain division budget. b. Coordinate the informed budget process. c. Ensure that the class schedule meets students' needs while being fiscally responsibleand efficient. 10. Commitment to keep the College accessible to a diverse urban population and abilityto promote cultural, economic, and ethnic diversity. 11. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability,culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. 12. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, andethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities. B.A. or B.S. degree required from a discipline area represented within the Division or equivalent. Have served as full-time faculty member who have taught for at least three (3) years (may include administrators returning to teaching, retired faculty members who want to return, etc.). Evidence of significant and productive participation in department-level processes such as scheduling, program review, department test preparation and administration, curriculum development, student issues and other department tasks. Demonstrated understanding of academic systems and culture in a post-secondary educational environment. Demonstrated understanding of the mission and role of a comprehensive community college. Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related disciplesin division and/or extensive industry experience and expertise.
