Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Coordinator for University Center and Student Activities / Education Support Specialist II (00204) in the University Center & Student Activities, to start in June 2026. The Coordinator for University Center and Student Activities is responsible for supporting the oversight of programs within the Office of the University Center and Student Activities and providing general administrative tasks. This position is part of the Student Engagement Unit within Student Affairs, which includes professional staff members within the areas of Fraternity and Sorority Life, Multicultural Affairs, and the University Center and Student Activities. Collectively, this unit aims to provide transformative learning opportunities within a diverse and inclusive environment where all students can develop the skills, competencies, and attitudes of an engaged citizen leader. This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Supervise the Student Assistant for the University Center and Student Activities office. Unlock the Upchurch meeting rooms on a daily basis (7:30AM, M-F) and assist with room setups as needed. Coordinate check-out of game equipment for the First Floor Lounge and opportunities for activities in the Lounge. Oversee the check-out process of storage keys in the old post office (Lankford Hall) for The Big Event and STEP LU. Coordinate the creation of content and formatting of the Weekly Email that is distributed to students, faculty, and staff every Thursday. Approve and upload digital signage in Upchurch University Center. Assist with game check-out during work hours. Approve all posters, ground graphics, and lawn signs displayed on campus. Coordinate the locker assignments for commuter students and student organizations. Serve as the key inventory manager for the Upchurch University Center.Student Activities:
Coordinate Involvement Fairs at the beginning of each semester that include student organizations and community partners who support volunteer opportunities. Serve on campus committees (e.g., New Lancer Days, Welcome Home Lancers, First Friday Back, The GAME). Approve student organization fundraisers and events via Lancer Link. Oversee the annual inventory of computers in Upchurch.Community Partner Support and Outreach:
Manage the list of community partners and their volunteer opportunities. Communicate regularly with community organizations to gather volunteer opportunities for Longwood students. Coordinate opportunities for appreciation/recognition of community partners.General:
Oversee the Student Union Marketplace application. Manage travel arrangements and other logistical details for student organizations with agency funds and for the University Center and Student Activities staff. Maintain and update the University Center and Student Activities website. Retain policies and procedures manuals for all Student Engagement departments. Coordinate the annual Library of Virginia Records Management procedures to annually retain and destroy records for Student Engagement departments. Serve as a member of the Student Engagement Unit; attend staff meetings both within the unit and with the University Center and Student Activities staff, while also attending individual supervision meetings. Participate in and contribute to University, Student Affairs, and Student Engagement committees, meetings, and professional development opportunities. Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the laws, regulations, and policies of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Longwood University, and the American College Personnel Association's Statement of Ethical Principles and Standards. Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean and Director of the University Center and Student Activities or the Associate Vice President for Student Engagement and Initiatives. Perform other duties as needed to support the smooth operation of the Student Engagement unit.Requirements:
Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent training and work experience. Knowledge of and experience with building operations, student staff supervision, public relations, and event coordination preferred. Technical knowledge preferred. Graduate Assistantships will be viewed as qualifying experience.Additional Information:
This is a full-time, classified, non-exempt position in pay band 3. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required.
