Job Summary Central Washington University is recruiting an Assistant Director of Academic Success to join our Academic Advising-Exploratory team in Ellensburg , Washington. The Role:
The Assistant Director of Academic Success manages the day-to-day operations of Academic Success to support student persistence, retention, and success through targeted intervention and student programming. This position will design programs and provide operational leadership for initiatives including Early Academic Alerts, peer mentoring, academic success coaching, first-year retention, academic recovery, and university enrichment programming to support students' academic success. Responsibilities include supervising professional staff, serving as a backup for student supervision, providing direction to professional staff regarding their program areas, and assisting with budget forecasting and spending approvals for the budgets related to their areas. This position regularly collaborates with a variety of stakeholders to achieve department and university goals as well as ensure effective implementation of policies and procedures. Job Duties Program Administration & Leadership
  • Collaborate with Undergraduate Studies leadership to provide strategic oversight and operational leadership for academic success and student retention initiatives.
  • Works closely with Executive Director to design and implement programs that advance student success, including but not limited to peer mentoring, university enrichment (e.
g.
UNIV 101, 102
), academic recovery, academic success coaching, early alerts, summer programs, and other academic success supports.
  • Coordinate and assist with the development of an enrollment hold consolidation effort and deploy student support services to promote timely enrollment for student persistence and retention.
  • Assist with recruiting and new students' summer orientation activities and coordinate the meetings prior to Fall Quarter.
  • Provide outreach and support to students considered at risk both due to academic progress. Refer students to other department advisors for assistance with degree and graduation planning while supporting all other advisors on campus.
  • Assist and provide administrative oversight of academic recovery programming, including processes for facilitating academic appeals, suspension appeals, and academic dishonesty investigations.
  • Maintain a consistent pattern of contact to encourage a trusting relationship through multiple channels of communication with key partners across Undergraduate Studies, Student Engagement and Success, and other divisional units.
  • Analyze, interpret, and explain student data, transcripts, and placement results,
  • Monitor compliance university policy and procedures related to students' academic success.
  • Design and deliver presentations to various audiences.
  • Develop strong working relationships with academic departments, programs, faculty, and staff across campus. Planning, Evaluation, and Assessment
  • Coordinate and assist with the development and implementation of data collection, analysis, and dissemination related to student success.
  • In coordination with various campus partners, plan and implement student persistence and retention initiatives such as non-registered calling campaigns, academic alert outreach, academic recovery support, SAP workshops, and other cross-department efforts.
  • Provide department leadership with metrics surrounding performance outcomes, participation in services, possible eligibility issues, quarterly scheduling data, and other areas to measure success.
  • Assist with creating annual reports to be submitted to appointing authorities, supervisors and other key stakeholders outlining key successes, current trends, and student success data. Supervision of Staff
  • Supervise work and professional development of professional staff and backup for student employees.
  • Actively engage in recruitment and hiring new employees.
  • Clearly define performance expectations, ensure accountability, and provides ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Conduct performance evaluations with graduate assistant.
  • Ensures employees have necessary resources.
  • Oversee and directs the work of staff; serves as mentor, coach and leader, and resolves complaints or issues.
  • Promote professional development opportunities.
  • Develop and fosters supportive working relationships, motivation and engagement.
  • Communicate information to staff on an ongoing basis to influence staff engagement and to be a part of a larger community.
  • Take corrective action in a timely manner.
  • Recognize and rewards employees for good performance.
  • Schedule employee work hours/shifts; monitor hours worked; approve payable time and absence requests.

Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree. 4 or more years of experience in working in higher education or student support services. Excellent interpersonal, written, communication, presentation, and listening skills. Demonstrated ability to work with students, staff and faculty. Demonstrated ability in the use of Word, Excel, email and/or similar software applications to produce written correspondence, create and maintain spreadsheets, and receive and respond to email inquiries, tasks, etc. Demonstrated ability to work independently to accomplish tasks and projects. Demonstrated ability and/or experience fostering a supportive and effective workplace while working with students and/or colleagues to uphold institutional excellence. OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree. Knowledge of student development theories and best practices in student success. Data driven decision making experience. Experience supervising individuals or teams. Experience using student information systems such as PeopleSoft, Civitas, or other related software. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of best practices and industry standards in supporting student retention, persistence, and completion Ability to incorporate a variety of perspectives and relevant societal issues into everyday conversations. Experience or interest in mentoring students from a variety of backgrounds.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule Salary :
The Hiring Department's expected hiring range is $53,000
  • $67,000 annually.
Individual placement within the hiring range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the full annual salary range for this position is $49,833 to $69,766.

Working Conditions :
Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer workstation for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
