Description Benefits Description Position Summary The Dean is primarily responsible for the coordination, planning, control and direction of the division's academic programs and its faculty and staff. Examples of Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assumes responsibility for the coordination, planning, control and direction of division programs, including serving on committees as required, scheduling classes and faculty assignments, reviewing and updating catalog material pertaining to divisional programs, coordinating program advisory committees, articulating programs within college and external colleges, universities and agencies, communicating needs to the VPAA. Completes routine assessment of local and regional data regarding potential new academic programs, researches viability of potential new programs including budget requirements, and leads new program and project start up activities under the guidance and support of the VPAA and in conjunction with program faculty. Identifies funding sources for new program start up. In collaboration with department coordinators, ensure all curriculum proposals, including new/revised courses and new/revised programs, follow the college's established curriculum approval process. In collaboration with the college course coordinator, ensure statewide data related to courses and programs is accurate, including approval of changes recommended by the Common Course Numbering System process. Assures student learning by planning, developing, reviewing, and evaluating division courses and programs in cooperation with the VPAA and faculty, including annual program review and annual reports. Serves on the Assessment Committee. Provides oversight of an outreach center, if applicable. Assists faculty in maintenance of course outcomes, student outcomes, teaching methodologies, an environment conducive to teaching and learning and with the integration of materials from other disciplines. Provides oversight of the academic division, including developing and implementing division goals, developing and managing divisional budget through cost control management, conducting regular division meetings, and maintaining communication among division faculty and staff. Supervises division faculty, staff and adjunct faculty, including assisting in employee/adjunct recruitment and development of orientation and onboarding activities, conducting periodic performance evaluations, serving as a liaison between VPAA and faculty and staff, etc. Oversees student recruitment, advisement, and progress within division, including monitoring scholarship award process, and maintaining records. Works in cooperation with College administrators, directors, programs and services in furthering the College mission and vision, and Strategic Plan. Actively participates in Strategic Planning for academics at all CWC locations. Serves as a resource person to the college and community. Actively participates in the institution's Accreditation process and reporting requirements. Assists with coordination of divisional, concurrent enrollment and dual credit course offerings with area high schools and the Board of Cooperative Higher Educational Services (BOCHES). Provide leadership to foster and facilitate the cooperative and cohesive operation of various divisional areas in collaboration with other student and academic service functions. Operate within the framework established by CWC's policies, procedures, and practices. Perform other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned. Typical Qualifications Position Specifications and Minimum Qualifications Education Master's degree in a directly related discipline from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education. Experience Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in leading and managing as academic department or division in higher education or related industry experience. Two years of higher education instructional experience Licenses/Certifications None Equivalency Statement Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Desired Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of and ability to follow CWC Policies and Procedures or ability to learn Knowledge of and skill in use of computers and software applications, specifically Microsoft Office Strong and effective organizational, communication, interpersonal and intellectual skills Ability to manage a diverse group of faculty and staff in a variety of disciplines Ability to comply with CWC Policies and Procedures, schedule projects and meet deadlines Ability to work independently, prioritize, follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion, with close attention to detail Ability and desire to promote, advocate, and achieve CWC's mission, vision and strategic plan High level of personal integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality Level of Supervision This position operates under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and it supervises faculty and staff in the Liberal Arts & Agriculture Division. Physical Requirements Tasks require a variety of physical activities, which do not generally involve muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching and light lifting. Regular talking, hearing and seeing required in the normal course of performing the job. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required to perform some essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Environmental Conditions Work is primarily performed in an office setting under very limited supervision. Travel, evening and/or weekend work is required.
