SUMMARY:
Virtual Arkansas is seeking applications for an adjunct teacher in the CTE Criminal Justice pathway. Virtual Arkansas adjunct teachers teach from online courses that are fully developed and include the full curriculum. These courses will be delivered to multiple students across Arkansas utilizing online teaching and learning strategies. The typical Virtual Arkansas adjunct teacher has a full-time teaching position at an Arkansas school district.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field
  • Applicants must possess a valid Arkansas teaching license
  • 603 licensure code required
  • Knowledge of law enforcement
  • Experience teaching at the high school level
  • Effective Online Teaching endorsement preferred
  • Must live in Arkansas
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Must be available to answer questions from students via email, via a video, or, if needed, via a Zoom meeting
  • Prepare courses for students, which includes putting in assignment deadlines and creating a pacing guide for the applicable semester.
  • Create Focus Videos for each module that provide overviews of the content to be learned in the module
  • Provide additional microtopic videos when needed
  • Monitor student progress and collaborate with all stakeholders (e.g. students, parents, colleagues, etc.) for the purpose of establishing and maintaining positive relationships while focusing on high expectations and continuous improvement for student learning
  • Implement IEP/504 accommodations, if applicable
  • Implement strategies to intervene with struggling students
  • Attend training sessions as directed by Virtual Arkansas administration
  • Implement the approved curriculum. Follow curriculum change process and procedures if changes are deemed necessary
  • Respond to student and facilitator needs as immediately as possible during working hours; communicate regularly with students and parents/guardians about student progress, but respond to all communication within 24 hours
  • Provide timely feedback to students on assignments and assessments and update student grades within the Learning Management System daily
  • Maintain accurate student records and ensure the confidentiality of student information
  • Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom environment that encourages student responsibility
  • Assist the administration in implementing policies and guidelines that govern student behavior and safety
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Maintain Professional Responsibilities
  • Communicate with the administration about classroom concerns
  • Post two announcements per week within the course and send grade updates to students and guardians each Monday.
  • Maintain the proper teacher-parent-student relationships
  • Seek professional assistance from the administrative and instructional staff as needed
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Administrative staff
  • Utilize the Teacher Gateway training information as a professional growth and professional information resource
  • Complete the Virtual Arkansas Adjunct Orientation course
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
  • Sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Use hands to handle or feel, type, and pick up objects, and reach with hands and arms
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds This position will be hired through the Dawson Education Service Cooperative.
