Job Description

Overview of School Founded in 1983, The Child's Primary School (TCPS) is a non-profit K-8 private school located in San Diego, CA. TCPS instills a passion for lifelong learning through an inclusive and interactive teaching model. The school's innovative environment, with no more than 16 students per class, empowers students to become leaders, thinkers, and creative problem solvers. Along with a strong academic program, TCPS helps students develop the individual and interpersonal skills that will allow them to thrive in the emerging global community. We are a small school with no more than 12 students per grade in K-2nd and no more than 16 students per grade in 3rd-8th, with only one class of students per grade. Job Overview This teaching position will blend the responsibilities of being the History Teacher for grades 6, 7, and 8. As an important member of our teaching staff, the History Teacher will lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential by translating TCPS curriculum goals, objectives, and philosophy into learning opportunities that will contribute to the skills necessary for success in future endeavors. Specific Job Functions Instructional Plan and implement a Middle School Social Studies (history and geography) program that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students within the framework provided by the TCPS curriculum. Use effective teaching techniques and materials to implement established curriculum goals and objectives, while meeting individual students' learning styles. Develop new and engaging, hands-on activities and lessons to add to the existing curriculum. Monitor and assess student progress in order to provide feedback to students and parents, utilizing the TCPS process for parent communication. Assist in assessing students' achievement in accordance with TCPS policies and guidelines. Communicate in a well-organized, age-appropriate manner, using clear and precise language. Participate in meetings and/or conferences related to students. Plan and teach an elective class for middle school students. Classroom Environment and Student Relations Create an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students. Implement reasonable classroom rules of behavior and procedure in a fair, non-judgmental manner that is aligned with TCPS philosophy. Create an effective environment for learning that is stimulating, organized, and efficient. Create exciting educational experiences that provide each student the opportunity to maximize their love for learning. Professional Duties & Expectations Follow adopted TCPS philosophy, policies, and administrative procedures. Communicate progress with students and parents in a timely, professional, and ethical manner. Assume responsibility for the supervision of students on school property during school hours and schoolsponsored events. Maintain professional competence. Maintain accurate, complete, and legible records as required by law and TCPS policies. Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Function as a collaborative and positive team member. Attend weekly staff meetings and school events. Perform Other Duties as Assigned or as
