K12 Principal / Secondary Social Studies Teacher (612) (Full-Time Split Role)

Position Profile Edison School District 54JT is seeking a dynamic and dedicated professional to serve in a full-time, split-role position as a Secondary Social Studies Teacher (grades 6-12)and K-12 Principal. This unique opportunity blends classroom instruction with school leadership responsibilities in a small, supportive rural school environment. This position is structured to divide responsibilities between teaching and administration, allowing the selected candidate to remain connected to students while providing leadership across the entire K-12 program. With an approximately 5:1 student-to-teacher ratioand a 4-day school week, Edison provides an environment where educators can build strong relationships, lead with purpose, and make a meaningful impact across the school community. Teaching Responsibilities (Part of Full-Time Role) Provide instruction in 6-12 Social Studies (e.g., U.S. History, World History, Government, Civics) Develop engaging, standards-based lessons that promote critical thinking and civic understanding Assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly Maintain a positive and productive classroom environment Communicate with parents and collaborate with staff Principal Responsibilities (Part of Full-Time Role) Provide instructional leadership for K-12 staff, supporting effective teaching practices and student achievement Oversee daily school operations, ensuring a safe and positive learning environment Support teacher evaluation, coaching, and professional growth Lead school improvement efforts aligned with district goals Manage student discipline and promote a culture of accountability and respect Communicate effectively with staff, students, families, and the community Assist with scheduling, staffing, and program development Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal requirements Collaborate closely with the Superintendent on school operations and strategic planning Qualifications Bachelor's degree required Valid teaching license and administrative/principal licensure (or ability to obtain) Experience in both classroom instruction and educational leadership preferred Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to effectively balance teaching and administrative responsibilities in a small school setting Benefits (Full-Time Positions) Health insurance Dental/Vision Insurance Supplemental Insurance Life insurance Paid time off (PTO) Retirement Plan Work Environment & Expectations This position follows the district academic calendar and operates within a collaborative, team-oriented school setting.
