Use historical inquiry, primary sources, and discussion-based learning to develop students' analytical and research skills.
Incorporate current events and civic engagement to help students make connections between history and contemporary issues.
Use data effectively to assess student growth and adjust instruction accordingly.
Foster a classroom culture of inquiry, debate, and respect for diverse perspectives.
Utilize technology and project-based learning to enhance student engagement and historical understanding.
Communicate effectively with parents and families to support student success.
Support the Catholic Identity of the school by integrating values-based discussions into lessons when appropriate.
Participate in school-wide activities, including assemblies, service learning, and spirit events.
Be an active member of the Carroll adult learning community, including attending all faculty meetings and professional development sessions.

QualificationsTeaching experience, preferably in an urban, high school setting.
Strong content knowledge in U.S. History, World History, Government, and/or other social sciences.
Certified to teach in MD, DC, or VA or willing to obtain certification within three years.
Demonstrates strong writing and communication skills, organization, collaboration, and adaptability.
Has a growth mindset and a commitment to differentiated instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners.
Dedicated to continuous professional growth and development.

AcademicsReports to: Principal, Director of Curriculum and InstructionJob SummaryThe Social Studies Teacher is responsible for creating an engaging and intellectually stimulating classroom environment where students develop a strong foundation in historical knowledge, critical thinking, and civic engagement. The teacher will encourage students to analyze historical events, social structures, and political systems while fostering discussions that connect past and present issues. This position requires a commitment to academic excellence, inquiry-based learning, and developing responsible global citizens.Social Studies Course Offerings:

Minimum Educational Requirements:
Bachelors degree in History, Political Science, Social Studies Education, or a related field, with a commitment to social justice and working with high school students.Minimum Experience Requirements:
Teaching experience and certification preferred; however, certification must be obtained within three years of hire.Other Requirements:
