The AP program at WPS is an established and valued pathway within the High School, currently offering AP European History and AP United States History. These courses are intentionally designed to provide students with advanced historical thinking, analytical writing, research, and assessment experience that prepares them for future academic rigor, including: IB Diploma Programme examinations Advanced High School assessments College and university coursework and examinations Future academic and professional pathways requiring critical analysis, communication, and independent thought The AP program operates alongside a robust High School curriculum that includes the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and Middle Years Programme (MYP). While the successful candidate may also contribute to IB Diploma, MYP , or other High School Social Science courses based on departmental needs and expertise, they will remain within the Social Science department and aligned to their areas of strength.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching & Learning Deliver engaging, rigorous, and inspiring AP European History instruction to high-achieving High School students Foster deep historical understanding, critical thinking, source analysis, writing, and discussion-based learning Prepare students effectively for AP assessments and future academic pathways Create a classroom culture that promotes curiosity, challenge, collaboration, and academic confidence Utilize assessment data strategically to support student growth and achievement Contribute positively to the broader Social Science curriculum and departmental initiatives Potentially teach additional Social Science courses within: 1) AP pathways, 2) IB Diploma Programme, 3) IB Middle Years Programme, 4) WPS High School courses AP Program Leadership Potential For candidates with leadership experience and ambition, there is potential for this role to include leadership responsibilities connected to the AP program at WPS.
This may include:
Supporting curriculum alignment and consistency across AP courses Collaborating with colleagues teaching AP subjects Promoting best practice in advanced historical writing and assessment preparation Supporting students in developing the academic habits and analytical skills required for future success in IB, university study, and beyond
The Ideal Candidate Will Demonstrate:
Experience successfully teaching AP European History A passion for history and the ability to make complex historical themes relevant and engaging Strong understanding of AP instructional practices and assessment expectations Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with students, families, and colleagues A collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute positively to department and school culture Commitment to continuous professional growth and reflective practice Ability to inspire ambitious students to achieve exceptional academic outcomes
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in History, Social Science, Education or related field required; Master's Degree or higher preferred. 3+ years teaching experience, preferably in the private sector Experience with IB Diploma Programme and/or MYP is advantageous but not required Teaching certification/licensure preferred Experience working with academically ambitious High School students in independent, private, or international school settings is highly desirable Google Suite platform experience required

Ability to display comprehensive knowledge of curriculum and instruction within the appropriate content area and/or grade level Use formative and summative assessment data to inform instructional decisions in the classroom Highly developed collaborative leadership skills and the ability to work well with and through others, including colleagues, parents, and students Intentionally create positive relationships that lead to a learning environment in which all students feel seen, heard, respected, represented, valued and appreciated Function as an advocate, advisor, mentor, and coach for students to promote independent thinking and learning Effective organizational skills including but not limited to lesson planning, implementing units of study, differentiating instruction, designing and implementing assessments Ability to monitor student progress and report information in a timely manner Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with parents, including initiating conversations about student performance and development Highly developed communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills .
