Job Description
Volcano School of Arts & Sciences Hālau ʻŌlaʻa Public Charter School seeks a student-centered High School Social Studies Teacher (full-time position) for a project-based high school program. This position requires the ability to design and deliver a rigorous and engaging standards-based curriculum through place- and project-based methodologies and a Hawaiʻi-focused lens. Candidates must be able to work effectively with high school students and be highly motivated to meet student needs. Candidates should possess a valid teaching license and a minimum of 2 years teaching experience, preferably in High School Social Studies. Other relevant experience or aptitude for this position will be considered. Candidates with Emergency Hire permits and demonstrated pathway to licensure may be considered. Qualifications Valid teaching license or Hawaiʻi Emergency Hire certificate with demonstrated pathway to obtaining licensure A minimum of two years teaching experience, preferably in Hawaiʻi Knowledge of NCSS C3 Framework for Social Studies content standards and Nā Honua Mauli Ola Guidelines for Culturally Healthy and Responsive Learning Environments Able to design and deliver high school Social Studies curriculum through place- and project-based methodologies and a Hawaiʻi-focused lens. Able to use the natural environment as a learning laboratory Knowledge and understanding of Hawaiian culture, values, and history Able to establish a learning culture based on Growth Mindset and Positive Discipline Student centered, professionally responsible, and positive attitudeTerm:
10-month, Full-time, 35 hours per weekAnnual Base Salary:
$55,259 (emergency hire) to $105,426 in accordance with HSTA collective bargaining salary schedule based on higher education degree or credits and years of service. Competitive salary Starting base salary for 1st year teacher with a license $56,259 Prior charter school or HIDOE salary classification honored with copy of SF5 or Personnel Action Form Maximum credits for private school and out-of-state experience offered Differential pay of $7,500 for licensed teachers for school's designation in "Hard-to-Staff" location Differential pay $5,000 for teachers with Hawaiian Language, Studies, or related degree Full benefits includingMedical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, Paid Sick Leave and State Holidays Benefits:
