Teachers maintain an appropriate learning environment while delivering instruction to at-risk youth. Additionally, teachers keep accurate records of student learning and attendance. Teachers develop weekly lesson plans utilizing curriculum framewoks and pacing guides. Specifically, the Social Studies teacher is responsible for preparing and delivering lessons that teach students to use Critical Thinking, Effective Communication and Creative Exploration to create globally Active Contributors.
Major duties and responsibilities:
  • Delivers engaging social studies lessons using different time periods, movements, historical events and figures
  • Make connections to current events and movements that keep social studies content relevant
  • Create summative and formative assessments, develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Create classroom norms and Standard operating procedures that are conducive to student learning.
  • Keep accurate records of student academic progress
  • Accurately records contact with parents and follows up with parents and/or guidance counselor
  • Identify and Complete funding requests using data and narratives
  • Coordinate and participate in after-school clubs, sports and social events
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in discipline area is required; master's degree is preferred
  • Illinois State certification (Type 09 is required)
  • A minimum of two years teaching experience, preferably in an urban environment with at-risk students
  • Demonstrated experience with classroom management, particularly in an urban environment with at-risk youth
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrate a sense of enthusiasm and passion for the teaching adolescent youth
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide differentiated classroom instruction
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms
