The population of Adair County is just over 18,000 and the county seat is Columbia, KY. The district is comprised of four schools on one campus-Adair County High School (9-12), Adair County Middle School (6-8) , Adair County Elementary School (3-5), and Adair County Primary Center (K-2). Preschool students attend a separate preschool center housed inside Adair County Primary School. There is a state funded juvenile detention center, Adair Youth Development Center, along with some residential, therapeutic facilities in the district. The district's student population is predominantly Caucasian, with minorities representing about 11% of the population; 68% of the students are economically disadvantaged.
