TITLE:
Social Studies Teacher Grades 6 & 7 - Bellingham Memorial School
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills and competence in the Social Studies curriculum and the ability to problem solve in a wide variety of settings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging social studies instruction aligned with the Massachusetts History and Social Science Curriculum Framework Teach grade-level social studies content for students in grades 6 and 7 Emphasize inquiry-based learning, primary source analysis, historical thinking, geography, civic understanding, and social studies practices Develop lessons that encourage critical thinking, discussion, writing, collaboration, and student reflection Create a positive, respectful, and well-managed classroom environment that supports student engagement and social-emotional growth Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners Use assessment data and student work to inform instruction and provide meaningful feedback Integrate educational technology to support instruction, research, presentation, and student learning Collaborate with grade-level teams, special educators, related service providers, counselors, and administrators to support student success Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress, classroom expectations, and learning goals Participate in team meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and/or
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
Massachusetts DESE Certification in History, Grades 5-8, required or preferred Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university required Ability to plan and implement lessons aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks Strong understanding of inquiry-based instruction, primary source analysis, and history/social science practices Strong classroom management skills that support student learning and social-emotional growth Experience integrating educational technology into instruction Experience meeting the needs of diverse learners SEI Endorsement preferred or willingness to obtain Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills CORI and fingerprinting background checks are required

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
You are required to be physically capable of escorting students from the building in case of a practice drill or emergency situation in a safe and timely fashion. Must be able to move about the classroom and have the ability to bend, sit or stand frequently.
