Job Summary The Middle School Social Studies Teacher is responsible for providing a dynamic and engaging learning environment that fosters academic excellence, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of history, geography, civics, and culture. As a member of the Catholic school community, the teacher supports the mission of the school by integrating Catholic values and teachings into the educational experience and serving as a positive Christian role model for students.
Job Responsibilities Plan and deliver standards-based instruction in middle school social studies courses, including history, geography, civics, economics, and related disciplines.
Develop engaging lessons that promote inquiry, critical thinking, research, discussion, and analysis of historical and current events.
Integrate Catholic teachings, values, and social justice principles into classroom instruction when appropriate.
Create and maintain a positive, respectful, and faith-filled classroom environment conducive to learning.
Assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments and maintain accurate records of student achievement.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
Utilize technology and instructional resources effectively to enhance student learning.
Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, classroom expectations, and school activities.
Collaborate with faculty and administration to support the school's academic and spiritual mission.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-sponsored events.
Supervise students during assigned duties and activities.
Uphold school policies and procedures and model professional conduct at all times.
Job Requirements Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, History, Social Studies, or a related field required.
Valid state teaching certification or eligibility for certification preferred.
Previous teaching experience at the middle school level preferred.
Practicing Catholic preferred, or willingness to support and uphold the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church.
Strong knowledge of social studies curriculum and instructional best practices.
Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to inspire students to develop an appreciation for history, civic responsibility, and global awareness.
Strong instructional planning and assessment skills.
Ability to integrate faith and values into the educational experience.
Commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and school leadership.
