At Mount Prospect Academy, we believe great teaching starts with strong relationships. Ashuelot Valley Academy is a 220-day, non-public special education school serving students in grades 5-12. Our small, supportive classrooms allow teachers the time and space to focus on what truly matters: helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. This Social Studies teaching role is ideal for an educator who values collaboration, creativity, and making a meaningful difference for students who need it most. What You'll Do
  • Deliver engaging, hands-on Social Studies instruction
  • Create a safe, structured, and welcoming classroom environment
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students
  • Support and implement IEP goals in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team
  • Use proactive classroom management and in-the-moment problem solving
  • Track progress, provide feedback, and celebrate student growth
  • Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals, clinicians, and school leadership

  • Teach assigned academic courses following the school curriculum
  • Provide instruction, grading, assessment, and progress reporting
  • Implement IEP and ITP goals through instruction and collaboration
  • Maintain lesson plans, unit plans, grading, and required documentation
  • Monitor and implement classroom behavioral supports as needed
  • Request and manage instructional materials and supplies
  • Supervise and collaborate with paraprofessionals
  • Participate in curriculum development, professional development, and trainings
  • Attend faculty meetings and contribute to school initiatives
  • Assist in planning school field trips and experiential learning activities
  • Maintain student confidentiality and appropriate communication
  • Represent Mount Prospect Academy professionally with families and community partners
  • Follow all organizational policies and procedures

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Bachelor's Degree Required
