UPPER SCHOOL GROUP TEACHER
(XIs/Grade 6) One Year Leave Replacement Job Description Upper School Group Teachers report to the applicable Division Director and are an integral part of the teaching faculty. Upper School Group Teachers approach instruction with an interdisciplinary approach, finding authentic ways to connect course materials to students' understandings of social studies. Our Teachers bring warmth, patience, and understanding to the classroom every day, encouraging children to learn and grow within and beyond the curricular content. This is a one-year, leave replacement. Responsibilities Encourage lifelong critical thinking and exploration Develop, revise, and teach XIs social studies curriculum Collaborate with Specials Teachers, Learning Specialists, and Administrators to find ways to integrate instruction across subjects, with namely social studies and the Jobs Program Create and maintain an equitable and inclusive learning environment Communicate effectively and establish strong working partnerships with families, students, colleagues, outside service providers, and administrators Write reports and conduct parent/teacher conferences Provide curriculum updates to Learning Specialists to support student growth and ongoing education Chaperone overnight and/or extended grade-level trips and events, as applicable Attend weekly Staff Meetings (Wednesdays, 3:30-5:30 p.m.) Other duties as assigned Requirements Masters degree in Education or related field At least 3 years of lead teaching experience, in applicable grade level a plus Developmental knowledge of and experience with applicable age group Experience developing and revising curriculum with an integrative approach Familiarity with inquiry and research-based instruction, experiential teaching, and lesson development Willingness to work in close collaboration with colleagues, and children, and parents Commitment to creating a culture of equity and inclusion in the classroom and throughout the school community Effective and responsive classroom management skills Strong written and verbal communication skills City and Country School offers a competitive compensation package, commensurate with level of experience and qualifications plus benefits. This position has a salary range of 74,295 - 91,422 per year. This full-time bargaining unit position is in-person five days per week at the school's campus in Manhattan's West Village.
