The ideal candidate will support the District's mission and vision and have the primary responsibility to plan and deliver developmentally appropriate lessons that meet state-mandated standards. The Middle Level Social Studies curriculum is interdisciplinary and includes, but is not limited to: civics and government, history, geography, and aspects of social organization. The teacher will foster student understanding of individual rights and responsibilities, civic engagement, historical inquiry, geographic literacy, and cultural awareness to prepare students to be informed and active citizens. District Summary The William Penn School District is located in southeastern Delaware County and serves approximately 5,000 students residing in the Boroughs of Aldan, Colwyn, Darby, East Lansdowne, Lansdowne, and Yeadon. We share a collective vision to educate, nurture, and empower all students to become career and/or college-ready.Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties:
Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with state standards and district curriculum for grades 6-9 Teach core social studies content, including civics and government, U.S. and world history, geography, and social/cultural studies. Encourage analytical thinking, debate, and the use of primary/secondary sources to investigate past and present events. Promote understanding of civic responsibility and the roles of individuals in government and society. Regularly monitor and maintain student attendance expectations. Monitor and analyze assessment data to support informed instructional decision-making (including,g but not limited to,o PVAAS, Keystone, and PSS)c) Provide timely feedback to students to support them in reaching content mastery goals/targets. Participate in proctoring state-mandated testing, school field trips, community outreach, and marketing events. Collaborate effectively with department and cohort peers to ensure academic goals are appropriate and instructional strategies are effective to reach identified student outcomes. Maintain accurate records and information in student information systems, following established procedures.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge/awareness of one's own cultural identity and how it influences behavior, and a desire to learn about others' cultural identities. Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students, and patrons of the District. Ability to recognize that each person is a unique individual, even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage. Knowledge of PA Core Standards and Eligible Content Knowledge of Instructional Planning Guides as it relates to the instructional block Knowledge of Digital Curriculum components Ability to courageously lead conversations focused on equity, closing opportunity gaps, and equal access to technology-infused lessons of rigor. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff and administrators, students, parents or guardians, outside agencies, and the public, in a multi-ethnic, multicultural, multilingual environment. Ability to receive and implement feedback to improve practice and systems.Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or universityValid Pennsylvania Certification:
