$30.00/hr About The Center for Black Educator Development The Center for Black Educator Development exists to (re)build a national Black Teacher Pipeline to achieve educational and racial justice by ensuring there is equity in the recruiting, training, hiring, and retention of quality educators that reflect the cultural background and share common socio-political interests of the students they serve. Launched in June 2019, the Center for Black Educator Development is revolutionizing education by dramatically increasing the number of Black educators so that low-income Black and other disenfranchised students can reap the full benefits of a quality public education. About the Position As one of the Teaching Pathway programs that CBED offers, Freedom Schools Literacy Academy (FSLA) is a 5-week summer apprenticeship program that prepares high-school and college-aged aspiring educators by way of providing literacy intervention and enrichment to elementary school scholars. Reporting to the Site Lead, Enrichment teachers will teach three classes each day of approximately 20 scholars per class. Enrichment teachers will plan and deliver high-quality enrichment instruction (e.g. music education, movement, physical education, social justice project, foreign language, art) aligned to program goals and student interests. Enrichment teachers will create opportunities for scholars to showcase their learning through projects, performances, or exhibitions by the end of the summer program. This is an in-person seasonal position, which includes mandatory training in preparation for the 5-week summer program. Though subject to change, the schedule is as follows:In-Person Training:

June Date TBD Responsibilities Be the Instructional Leader in a classroom Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality enrichment instruction (e.g. music education, movement, physical education, social justice project, foreign language, art) aligned to program goals and student interests Design and internalize lesson plans and adapt them to meet the diverse needs of scholars Foster creativity, self-expression, collaboration, and skill development through hands-on and/or performance-based learning experiences Create opportunities for scholars to show case their learning through projects, performances, or exhibitions Build a Positive and Structured Learning Environment Implement best practices for classroom management to ensure a safe, inclusive, and joyful environment Support the intellectual, emotional, and social development of scholars through enrichment content Establish clear routines and expectations that maximize active participation and minimize downtime Develop professionally Continue to grow as a leader and educator by learning new skills and reflecting on your practice Be open to feedback and make improvements based on guidance from coaches and supervisors Take responsibility for your own learning, growth, and professional behavior Assume responsibility for administrative elements and scholar supervision Help with administrative tasks and supervise scholars to ensure a safe and positive environment Help create a welcoming, organized, and visually appealing learning space for scholars Communicate regularly with families Complete instructional deliverables, surveys, and forms in a timely manner Adhere to CBED's FSLA policies and procedures with fidelity Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's Degree required with at least two (2) years of teaching experience with students in urban settings that resulted in high student outcomes Open to receiving and implementing feedback Engages in constant reflection of your work-not just what you do but how you do it Shows resiliency in the face of challenges Consistently demonstrates a positive, solution-oriented mindset Is a flexible thinker willing to do "whatever it takes" Willing to adhere to all program professionalism expectations (e.g. on time arrival, consistent daily attendance, appropriate dress, respectful communication with scholars, families, and staff) Believes in FSLA's mission and instructional model and have a ferocious desire to provide our scholars with a world-class education Holds a deep commitment to The Center's mission, vision, and core valuesSimilar jobs in Philadelphia, PA
