Instructor of Accounting Institution South Dakota State University Working Title Instructor of Accounting Posting Number F01893P Department SDSU-Ness School of Management & Economics Physical Location of Position (City) Brookings Posting Text The Ness School of Management and Economics at South Dakota State University (SDSU) invites applications for an Instructor of Accounting. The Ness School seeks a dynamic, innovative instructor. Teaching outcomes associated with the position, which the school's standards document precisely specifies, must satisfy the academic standards AACSB associates with its faculty-status classification, Instructional Practitioner. The position is nine months, full time, benefits eligible, and non-tenure track, with the possibility of supplemental summer teaching. The position is supervised by the Director of the Ness School of Management and Economics and located in Brookings. The Ness School, which includes approximately 40 full-time faculty members and a team of academic advisors, embodies an intellectual philosophy that economics and quantitative analysis are foundational to thriving in and critically assessing a modern global economy. In keeping with the land-grant mission of the university, the school is the premier source for economics and business intelligence in the region. The school engages its stakeholders in the classroom, through scholarship, and through outreach—formally through SDSU Extension and otherwise. The Ness School is an AACSB accredited business school managing significant enrollment growth in its majors and balancing new opportunities in core business fields with its traditional strengths in economics and quantitative analysis. In its research, teaching, and outreach efforts, the school embraces interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration. The roughly 1,350 students who major in the Ness School complete coursework in macro- and microeconomic theory, finance, calculus, and statistics; students who major in economics complete advanced-level macro- and microeconomic theory courses, econometrics, and mathematical economics; while students who major in accounting, agricultural business, business economics, consumer behavior, entrepreneurial studies, finance, and operations management complete a comprehensive suite of business courses, including courses in accounting. Meanwhile, thousands of students pursue the school's minors, including in accounting, commodity risk management, and real estate. Master's programs in economics and operations management and a graduate real-estate certificate are available as well. We anticipate a start date of August 22, 2026. RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach four undergraduate course sections each semester in conventional face-to-face on-campus formats and through emerging modes of remote delivery, including hybrid and/or other online formats, in ways that meet the standards the school associates with its AACSB-faculty-status classification, Instructional Practitioner. Teach undergraduate courses including, for example, Principles of Accounting Participate in Ness School and university general-service activities. Lead with exceptional pedagogy in the classroom and through undergraduate-student mentorship.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MBA or other master's degree in accounting or closely related field by the position start date. Strong evidence of the potential for effective teaching. Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Effective organizational and time-management skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Teaching and general-service experience (committee work, advising students, curriculum development, etc.) at the collegiate level. Teaching experience in distance, hybrid, or online modalities. Certified Public Accountant Accounting industry experience.
