Primary Purpose:
Provide struggling students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university Valid Texas teaching certificate within required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies 1. Implement lessons that accommodate the learning needs of academically struggling students. 2. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect the learning needs of students assigned. 3. Assist in conducting universal screening evaluations and providing data to classroom teachers. 4. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. 5. Work with campus team to target and plan instruction. Student Growth and Development 6. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through progress monitoring. 7. Assist with classrooms when needed to allow teachers time for professional development and data review. Classroom Management and Organization 8. Create small group setting conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. 9. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. 10. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Communication 11. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. 12. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Professional Growth and Development 13. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Other 14. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies. 15. Assist in compiling, and filing all reports, records, and other documents as required. 16. Attend and participate in faculty meeting and serve on staff committees as required. 17. Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.

Posture:
Frequent sitting and standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion:
Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
Lifting:
Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds), occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior.
Environment:
May work prolonged or irregular hours, work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), exposure to noise, occasional districtwide and statewide travel.
