All faculty are expected to understand and promote the mission, standards, and policies of the School. We are seeking a passionate and dependable History teacher to join our team. Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, teaching history to various grade levels while tailoring lesson plans to individual students or classes, and setting homework and assessments. This position will require an individual who is able to handle a wide range of responsibilities, including administrative tasks.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Instructional Excellence & Classical Pedagogy Dynamic Lesson Delivery:
Create and teach engaging History lessons that cover various time periods and movements while utilizing the Socratic Method to foster critical thinking and independent research.Primary Source Analysis:
Guide students in analyzing primary documents and original sources, helping them move beyond memorization to evaluate evidence and develop persuasive arguments.Curriculum Alignment:
Develop and implement course syllabi and lesson plans that align with the school's classical education model and "whole-person" liberal arts philosophy.Differentiated Learning:
Implement instructional strategies to address diverse learning styles, providing necessary scaffolding and resources while maintaining high academic expectations.Christian Worldview & Mentorship Biblical Integration:
Authentically integrate a Christian worldview into the history curriculum, helping students explore God's providence through historical events and figures.Spiritual Leadership:
Serve as a Christian role model, modeling the school's core values of Honor, Faith, Love, Discipline, Excellence, and Respect in and out of the classroom.Student Discipleship:
Act as a mentor and advisor to students, supporting their academic, social, and emotional growth while fostering a culture of belonging and accountability.Assessment & Administration Comprehensive Assessment:
Design and administer formative and summative assessments, including analytical essays and oral presentations, to track student progress and inform instruction.Data Management:
Maintain accurate, up-to-date records for attendance and grading within VeraCross and utilize Google Suite for efficient workflow.Classroom Management:
Maintain a safe, orderly, and aesthetically enriching learning environment conducive to student focus and engagement.Professional Engagement Parental Partnership:
Maintain proactive and open communication with parents regarding student progress and well-being.Faculty Collaboration:
Actively participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and attending school functions and traditions.Continuous Growth:
Pursue personal and professional growth through self-reflection and participation in the school's evaluation programs.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Education /Certification:
A Bachelor's degree in History or a related field is required, though a Master's degree is strongly preferred.Experience Required:
A minimum of 2 years of classroom experience is required, with a preference for those who have taught AP European History, AP US History, and/or AP World History. Teachers with experience in International Baccalaureate teaching are also preferred.Classical Orientation:
Preference is given to candidates with experience or training in Classical education, including the Socratic Method or Harkness Method.Classification:
Exempt Skills /Abilities:
High proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive) and experience with Student Information Systems like VeraCross or another SMS. Lesson planning and the ability to provide engaging and differentiated instruction Outstanding oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex historical concepts and motivate students toward intellectual curiosity. A demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues across departments to build a cohesive academic community in the Upper School. An active commitment to the Christian faith and a desire to embody the school's core values: Honor, Faith, Love, Discipline, Excellence, and Respect. A high standard of ethical conduct and a servant-leader mindset focused on the welfare of the school community beyond the classroom. The emotional intelligence required to manage a classroom effectively while providing pastoral care and mentorship to Upper School students.Compensation and Benefits:
