Aug 3, 2026 Job Description 6th Grade Social Studies Teacher Job Description Reports To Campus Principal / Academic Dean / Instructional Coach Position Summary The 6th Grade Social Studies Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) to develop students' understanding of world cultures, geography, history, and critical thinking skills. The teacher will use engaging, student-centered instruction and literacy integration strategies to support student success on STAAR-aligned assessments and across content areas. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction and Curriculum Implementation Deliver rigorous, TEKS-aligned social studies instruction for 6th grade students (World Cultures and Geography). Develop and implement lesson plans that promote critical thinking, inquiry, and analysis of historical and geographic concepts. Integrate reading and writing strategies into social studies instruction to support campus literacy goals. Use a variety of instructional strategies including primary source analysis, discussion, collaborative learning, and project-based learning. Data Analysis and Assessment Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction. Analyze student performance data from benchmarks, classroom assessments, and TEKS-based checkpoints. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to meet learning needs. Participate in PLCs and data meetings to plan targeted instruction. Differentiation and Student Support Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including struggling students and advanced learners. Provide targeted interventions and enrichment opportunities based on student needs. Support students with special education services, 504 plans, and English learners. Incorporate vocabulary development and academic language into instruction. Classroom Environment and Management Establish a structured, engaging, and respectful learning environment. Implement effective classroom management strategies to maximize instructional time. Build strong relationships with students to support engagement and learning. Maintain clear routines and expectations. Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Collaborate with colleagues to align instruction and improve student outcomes. Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress. Participate in campus and district professional development. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited university Certification Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in Social Studies (Grades 4-8 or 6-12) Experience Experience teaching middle school social studies preferred Knowledge of TEKS standards and STAAR expectations Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of world cultures, geography, and history Ability to integrate literacy strategies into content instruction Skill in engaging students through inquiry and discussion Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction Strong classroom management and organizational skills Effective communication and collaboration skills Physical and Work Conditions Work primarily in a classroom setting Ability to supervise students and remain standing or walking for extended periods Occasional evening events or meetings
