ACADEMIC COACH
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy of thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Some teaching specialties (i.e. music, art, physical education, etc.) may require hearing, vision, physical coordination and/or exertion and effort in excess of those listed above.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS
This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or skills associated with Participates as a member of a team to develop and implement a support framework for achievement. Analyzes test data to determine benchmarks, establish goals, and monitor improvement in identified schools. Performs on-going classroom observation and provide teacher feedback. Models effective classroom instruction. Coaches teachers on instructional performance. Meets regularly with building administrators and classroom teachers regarding classroom practices, and provides on-going feedback. Attends professional development activities to maintain knowledge of coaching skills and content knowledge. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers and administrators.

Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of Virginia Standards of Learning and related assignments. Must have been involved in school activities and committees involving leadership responsibilities beyond those required in the classroom. Must possess in-depth knowledge of instructional best practices and adult learning theory. Must possess effective instructional delivery techniques and the ability to guide and train teachers in effective techniques and strategies. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must have any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels a plus.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must hold a professional license or be eligible to teach in the Commonwealth of Virginia with an appropriate endorsement. Must have at least three (3) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher. Must possess in-depth knowledge of current instructional strategies.
