Courses include:
business, business law, business math, economics, accounting, and business-based computer applications. This position reports directly to the Central Campus Dean of Instruction. This is a 214/7, tenure-track faculty position beginning Fall Quarter 2026. If hired before the beginning of fall quarter, then this position will be non-tenure track until fall quarter.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & OTHER DUTIES
Essential Functions:
Teach assigned Business courses and provide high quality instruction in a variety of delivery methods, including face to face, web-enhanced, hybrid, and online. Adequately prepare all course materials and lessons for transferable business, accounting, and mathematics courses Communicate effectively and professionally with a diverse population of colleagues and students. Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations and timelines through carefully written topical outlines and approved standardized syllabus. Support College student achievement practices, to ensure student retention, completion, and progression. Provide interesting and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes in a real-life setting. Respond to student questions on a timely basis. Provide individual and small group instruction to students in both a classroom and lab setting. Ensure that individual, lab, and small group instruction is based on best available education practices, meets standards for content, and is relevant to students' vocational career training at the college. Maintain student and curriculum records i.e. student progress and attendance, instructional syllabi, course curriculum and plans, and grades. Effectively use available technology resources to enhance student access to knowledge and information, and effectively use technology to deliver instructional content. Develop and/or maintain industry-based program accreditation, and ensure students are prepared for and have the opportunity to obtain relevant industry credentials and certifications. Deliver classroom management to maintain suitable learning environment by responding appropriately to student conduct/problems and provide assistance in solving them in accordance with college procedures. Provide budget management which includes requisition and maintenance control of and safeguard inventories of equipment and supplies assigned to the program. Possess a reliable computer to conduct any online components of courses including the ability to utilize CANVAS, the college's learning management system of choice. Develop and maintain full program curriculum documentation, in accordance with the approved college format and ensure that instruction is consistent with current industry or business standards, technologies, procedures, equipment and materials. Develop course curriculum, use the college syllabus template, and include performance objectives, competencies, lesson plans, and content by analyzing industry needs in the occupation taught. Annually validate and review course competencies and skills required for industry entry level employment in the industry or profession and adapt curriculum to match those skills when needed Coordinate with other instructors, support services staff and advisory committee members to ensure a cohesive learning environment dedicated to providing industry with qualified entry-level employees.Non-Essential/Other Functions:
Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements. Support College student achievement practices to ensure student retention, completion, and progression. Participate actively and collaboratively with College Student Services and program advisory committees to support access to employment opportunities for students, and maintain student job placement records. Accountable for keeping personal development up-to-date; adding to skills and knowledge through courses that may be available through the Bates Technical College courses, professional development committees, etc. Participate actively and collaboratively on committees for college as needed including but not limited to staff recruitment, college councils, etc. Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Business or closely related field from an accredited college or university. Demonstrated ability to teach transferrable college-level business courses. Allowable Substitution If necessary, alternative combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by Human Resources for comparability.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching at a community college and/or the freshman & sophomore levels. Experience with the CANVAS learning management system. Experience teaching courses in business, business law, economics, business math, and/or basic accounting principles. Term Life Insurance Bates provides $35,000 basic life insurance for death from any cause and $5,000 basic accidental death and dismemberment at no cost to the employee. Employees can enroll in additional low cost life insurance for themselves and dependents. Long Term Disability Insurance (LTD) Bates provides a basic LTD insurance plan at no cost to employees. The basic plan pays a maximum of $240 per month after 90 days of total disability. The optional LTD plan pays 60% of the first $10,000 of monthly salary, reduced by any deductible income such as social security or retirement benefits. Employee cost is dependent upon benefit waiting period chosen. (b) Plan Leaves and Holidays Vacation Eligible exempt and classified employees accrue annual leave at rates determined by their employee status, ranging from 7 to 16 hours per month when eligible. Sick Leave Eligible classified, faculty, and exempt staff accrue sick leave monthly. Employees represented by a bargaining unit should refer to their negotiated agreement for sick leave rules and accrual rates.
